That's quite the post, but as I was skimming through it, I did find one thing to comment on, "So why should the average Joe put up with bitcoin’s volatility and the possibility of having his funds easily stolen (if he has to move his money around, you can’t just keep it in cold storage forever you know) and no consumer protection? Why?" You assume that I want mass adoption. I don't. You assume that I want to cater to the average Joe. I don't. I am simply looking for a better alternative to the system that has been forced upon me since birth. I was born, coincidentally, at the exact time that the US decided to completely detach their fiat currency from any connection with anything of real value. I don't blame anyone for not teaching me about the way the world works. I blame myself for not learning about it earlier. Good luck sticking with the "average Joe's" it's ok, the government will take care of everything. I'm sure it will all turn out fine.

I'm not going to waste my time with your shitty arguments, because you'll come up with some other stupid answer that makes no sense and still think you're right. Arguments should speak for themselves, looks like you don't have any. The only thing that you are saying in that post is that companies accept bitcoin to self-promote themselves by using a currency that is only used to buy drugs and child porn. A "store of value" is to be considered over a long time period, not 1 year, considering this, it seems to do it's job. Not only was it able to store value, it also created value. People also have been saved by bitcoin, because the traditional system said "FUCK YOU".

Guys why are you shouting MOON when we have moved few dollars up? i am missing the days when MOON and CCMF actually meant something Welcome to a (maybe) slightly more sane market, my friend ... 50% up (bottom to peak) in 10 days is nothing to sneer at... Not saying we will never see another crazy rally like in the old times, but the higher the total network valuation gets, and the more sophisticated traders (and the instruments provided to them) become, the more the crypto market will resemble more traditional ones. Assuming the bottom is in finally, it'd probably be better if the market reacts less 'bubbly' from here on. Can't stay a penny stock forever, that's what I'm trying to say EDIT: Just saw the post now... this man gets it: The proliferation of financial instruments that allow for hedging and short positions have come a long way since the days of ZhouTong.
I expect hope for a brutally incessant march upwards with many retracements and opportunities along the way.

Well good morning Bitcoinland. Tiny rise overnight, I see. Are we finally over $240 for good? Better than another weekend dip. Let's hope Jan 14 really was Capitulation Day and the path will be mostly upward from here. Hopefully 2014 was just an aberration. Still waiting patiently for the train and packing as many coins as possible in my bags. These last few months have been great for those who have the clarity pf mind to ignore the trolls and permabears and keep buying.

There has to be some seriously nervous shorters around, the big buys havent even started yet if this is going to be a full blown rally.

A MACD dinosaur was already spotted on the 19th... you may have already missed the train...
I did indeed miss my chance to be driving the train, back in 2012 when I was selling bitcoin for 5-10 bucks. I did not, however, sell my seat, and I will continue to ride along through the peaks and valleys as we roll forward, and back, and forward again.

Big spike in the new users on bitcointalk. New members per day is closer to what the forum was getting late 2013.
