Canada is a great country. One of the few I could imagine trying to migrate in the case shit hits the fan here in Europe. Had been there once and it was a great experience.
Thanx. Back in the 1990s I used to play a little game on the internet because it brought us a new internationalism and validated Marshall McLuhan's vision of the global village. I'd ask people to post which 3 countries would be their choice to live if they had to emigrate form their native countries. It was mostly countries like the Scandinavian and Benelux nations, Iceland, New Zealand, Switzerland and of course Canada. Warrior nations like Russia, the USA and China didn't make the list. Feel sorry for anyone unfortunate to be born somewhere like that. ____ I hope I'm not being too obnoxious. After almost a week of convalescence and sobriety I went out and had a few cold Guinness. In vino veritas.

You benefit from America's military protection and R&D from drug companies while we pay for it. I don't agree with our government policies either, but it doesn't make you smarter. It makes you parasites. If the shit hits the fan, I'm going to Canada too because you disarmed motherfuckers will be easy pickings.
Even Dick Cheney isn't dumb enough to fuck with the USA's number one trading partner. As for "easy pickings" remember who won the War of 1812 (hint: it wasn't the USA). Canada never started a war and we never lost one either. In fact we were the first across the lines in WW1, made a huge sacrifice in WW2 with the test of Hitler's defenses at Dieppe and again spearheaded the invasion at Normandy on D-day. Ask any Netherlander who really cleared the Axis powers out of Europe. ____ I really didn't want to get into a little nationalistic sandbox tiff with a member of our number one trading partner, but you started it. First blood. Anyway, I'm done with this nonsense. Goodnight.

First blood. Anyway, I'm done with this nonsense. Goodnight. I don't give a shit about Dick Cheney. We are talking about a shit-hits-the-fan scenario where people without guns become the bitches for people with guns. It's not about nations. it's about people who beat their swords into plowshares being forced to plow for those who didn't. I'm not a nationalist. I'm a marksman. You're a target. an arrogant fat soft unarmed socialist target. I'm a free trader, but NAFTA isn't free trade. It's managed trade. It's a screw job for both countries. I don't care if you bootleg movies or music. Copying isn't stealing. But it pisses me off that Canadians get American drugs cheaper than we get them ourselves while we subsidize your national defense. My government sucks. So does yours. Just be a good neighbor and stop bragging about how smart you are for stealing from us because we have more guns than you and we're getting pretty fed up.

Canada doesn't have a monopoly on smart people but on a basis of population we're still well ahead of the Russians
Only because you import Chinese and export Celene Dion and Nickleback. We also don't put our healthcare in the hands of sleazy insurance corporations or spend more on the military than on education. I tried not to mention the Land of the Incarcerated and the Home of the Emboldened. Sigh. _________ Sorry everybody. I should never have bitten Bargainchop's trollbait. My apologies. Good morning Bitcoinland.
Still around $420 I see. Marginally better than $416 I suppose but still pretty much sideways.
Let's see what the weekend brings.

What's going on? Just like Bitcoin is time-compressed, HO-scale model of IRL money, #bitcoin-assets is time-compressed Bitcoin in a teacup petri dish. The drama that takes years to play out in Bitcoin (devs rage-quitting, "the Great Schism," etc., etc.) takes weeks to play out there (Mircea rage-quits; BFF/WoT wars; people getting kicked (& B&); passion & grandiosity; unironic likening of MP to God/Pope; talk of "dying for an idea," etc.). All set off with that 0-fee tx that "bankrupted" BitBet. Antifragile.

Fair enough. Perelman is no slouch. For a country with the population of Russia though, they don't do so well. Meanwhile, half of the original Silicon Valley was educated at The University of Western Ontario or the University of Waterloo. The rest came mostly from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Michigan at Dearborn. That's not counting Stanford of course. The were the destination. Many of our best minds were scooped up by the Americans (and their money) in the 1960s. At the time we called it the brain drain. Canada doesn't have a monopoly on smart people but on a basis of population we're still well ahead of the Russians It sort of helps to speak english in Silicon Valley. Let's look at some other measures: This is what Russia sent up into space 30 years ago: This is their contribution to the ISS: And Canada? "fap fap fap fap fap"Ok, change of focus: Russia: Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff. Canada: Avril Lavigne, Bryan Adams...... eh...ehh... Russia: Bolshoi Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet. Canada: Cirque du Soleil. As for "easy pickings" remember who won the War of 1812 (hint: it wasn't the USA).
