just hooked up my old asicminer block erupter USB sticks and started running them again. pretty sure i won't make a cent, but screw it.

course two hubs seemed to have died on me... 13 sticks not running. Sad

this, of course, means the price will tank.
Indeed. People are sending me A6's for repair. Actually pretty nice little miners, quiet and respectable.

$7500 a bitcoin is just.... wow.

Any advice how to handle this?
Thanks in advance.

But a wildcard that I'm expecting is the implosion of Finex.

What the fuck is this?  A complete conspiracy?  Do you have any evidence at all that this is likely beyond pure speculation that Bitfinex is getting BIG again?

By the way, Bitfinex has to have a bit of confidence in their solvency and even their attempt to run a legitimate business since they had the balls to kick out all of the USA customers, including yours truely.  Maybe you are going to assert that I am naive, but if Bitfinex truely wanted to exit scam us, wouldn't they have already done it?  They weren't ready to exit scam us, so now they are building up business in order to exit scam us on their own convenient time line?

Come on!!!

[insert jim carey "come on meme" here, with the water spitting part]

"Solvency" sounds funny when their banking relations are top secret (if they still have any), and they rely on that tether thing with funny clauses sounding as the opposite of solvency.

I recommend a couple of articles on medium by @bitfinexed. For me, they actually scammed me when they "got hacked" and monetized the theft (!) after falsely assuring their clients that their wallets were in cold storage (!), so I am out of there since then, but since apparently it's full of people looking to be goxxed twice or more by the same entity they're going on. And given such questionable reputation the fact that they are now the biggest exchange smells to me like some kind of fakery.

BTW it takes no balls at all to kick out US customers. Quite the contrary.

Not my style as I am an honest person (except for my day job that forces me not to be, hopefully those days are over soon...), but would not mind making some money out of that to be honest...  Grin
If I open a support ticket, it would not even be visible anymore - at least that is what happened to a recent support ticket of mine...

Ebay used to have a bunch being sold for pennies on the dollar, but to be honest just stick a few in the sides of your laptop and use them to warm your hands.

I wonder though what the minimum efficiency is for a profitable miner. S9's used to be it, but others may be coming back into vogue. (Where is that Block Erupter.....)

There's an aspect not much thought about - difficulty adjustment is going to be very inconvenient regarding S2X activation:
- Estimated Next Difficulty adjustment: After 821 Blocks, About 8.6 days
- SegWit2x Activation Countdown Timer: 11d 16h
This means next difficulty adjustment will be almost exactly 3 days before the fork. If we suppose mining power split somewhere along the half/half lines, the adjustment after that will come not after 14 days as it should, it will realistically be somewhere around (14 - 3)  * 2 + 3 days = 25 days, somewhere around December 11th. It would be much better if the difficulty adjustment is three days after the fork, not three days before.

you're lucky you're out, cos it's true they're gonna go phft. they're backed by promises to pay rather than money. not a bitcoin business at all

They surely gave a lot of real BTC to USA customers.  I had the largest amount of my bitcoins there (over 30% at times), as compared with other exchanges, because of my ability to make a lot of money by loaning them out... Anyhow, they gave me no issues to withdraw everything.. and just think about how many other USA customers were able to withdraw their BTC (and other crypto and other USD - by converting to crypto)... It must add up to $100s of millions of crypto value.

People need to accept things are going to go to shit for a couple months while the dust settles over SW2X.   Everyone would be better off just going to beach resort for a couple months and forgetting about the whole thing and let it all blow over.
