We have discussed this solution with the Bitcoin core developers and will allow Bitcoin withdrawals again once it has been approved and standardized.
Yeah, so, what's the ETA on that? Roll Eyes

I can only imagine the headlines when this story is picked up by mainstream as "protocol vulnerability found" - bummer it's probably (but hopefully not) going to get blown out of proportion.

Markets did not like that at all it seems.  They expected MtGOX to sink perhaps... but a flaw with the protocol that affects all exchanges

They have worded this really badly, I know they have best intentions and all that...but this will bring about the mother of all crashes by bringing the integrity of btc in question. Shoulda just said 'we're still working on it'.

https://www.mtgox.com/press_release_20140210.html

But..look on the bright side, btc is still btc, and we will all come out of this with much cheaper coins! We're still going to the moon (in march / april).

Popcorn out, feet up - let's try and enjoy the ride.

mtgox is passing the buck... they don't want to claim responsibility for the flaws in their wallet software so they've dubbed it as "it's not our fault, it's bitcoin's"

MtGox did not said anything about how many bitcoins were stolen this way - I am assuming this must have happened, how else could they know about this issue?
