Cool.

Years ago for security reasons I considered making a quadrangle out of one 32' and three 40' containers with an 8' wide door to the courtyard in the middle for the safe storage of snowmobiles, etc. The door would be a roll-down steel security door like what they use for jewelry or electronics stores in bad neighborhoods. The containers themselves are fairly secure. They're frequently left unattended on waterfronts with millions of dollars in merchandise in them.

I considered second and even third stories but that would entail some kind foundation. Now that we have winter homes in Mexico, all we really need is a secure 40' steel pied-a-terre cabin in the forest by the lake as a summer getaway.

Thanks for the link. It took me back to those days when I was checking out various designs. At the time I could get 40' containers delivered for $2800CAD.

This thread has been pretty fun to follow lately. https://twitter.com/ZeitgeistFilm/status/1339826312588918784 Dude is getting dunked on pretty hard for just not getting Bitcoin. I think the "Have fun staying poor" meme really got under his skin badly.

I thought Bob rotated the Bitcoin symbol artfully enough. Heh.

My cat is not gay, he has a beautiful partner and 5 children. Kiss#nohomo
Every time I enter the thread, Bitcoin is 2,000 dollars higher, at this rate I will have to sell the cat to buy Bitcoin.

Surely, your situation does not seem enviable, VB.

These kinds of BTC price runs are when peeps need to be in.. and largely we have hardly had any meaningful or material price corrections from early September starting at about $10k... .. but of course, many of us who had been in BTC since the downturn in 2018 had a lot of opportunities to stack up on corn well into the sub $10k arena for quite a long time.. and there were even quite a few bearish members who were suggesting that $10k was quite a ways into the future (which really does not seem so far in the future when we look back at our various BTC buying opportunities over the past 3 years).

Its not that easy, he would have to request compensation equivalent to the price of bitcoin on January 1 2021 for the fiat loaned, but that is impossible..., at the moment I only have the agreement for the money to be returned at the end of this month, we are on the dec-20 and the bag is empty.
(I will have to start with a less aggressive but constant strategy, in case I can take advantage of some lower prices.)

Thx for reminding me how dumb I am. Wink

Talking about all ahead one third, have you heard that Elwars cruise ship Satoshi is getting scrapped?
They couldn't get insurance.

Elwar is a likable guy, but I've never understood his obsession with seasteading. I guess that, when you become super-rich, something screws up in your head and you become obsessed with pointless, impossible tasks. Risto Pietila comes to mind. It's sad, really.

Trying to go against nature is a futile, pointless task, as is trying to go against the establishment without a feasible plan. Taking the law on your hands and setting up a seastead in the middle of the ocean is madness and delusion combined.

IMHO.

Sad news really. You still need the insurance if the vessel doesn't move? Perhaps some RE insurance could apply? I'm sure there should be some way around this...

There's a point in that. In order to succeed you need to solve some real world problem not invent your own. On the other hand, some really innovative revolutionary ideas have been overlooked (including Bitcoin btw). Many bright pioneer inventors were considered to be crazy etc.

I totally agree with that, and I see nutildah's point too. But, IMHO, setting a seastead in the middle of the ocean is, like you said, inventing your own problems. I don't think it solves anything. It costs a lot, it's dangerous (almost deadly), it's far from a natural human habitat. Just imagine being there alone, or even with a partner (no question about having children there). What is the purpose of that, other than satisfying a selfish, almost perverted desire? Everyone is free to do whatever s/he likes, of course...

As for "Satoshi" the ship, again, an interesting project (I may even have merited some of Elwar's posts about it, purely for his determination), but was it really worth it? It just seems pointless to me. Just like Risto's castle.
