Well that's comparing apples and oranges then.  If you are looking at supply growth, it certainly wasn't hundreds of % for BTC this year.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Ok, some New Year wishes in case I won't manage to do it later: first, I wish all nocoiners to become bitcoiners in 2021! It's never late to start accumulating (stacking sats) and slow down the process of getting poor...  Smiley

I wish all hodlers to HODL all the way up to the blowoff top and then depending on your financial situation and long-term targets either keep on HODling through the next bear market on to the future halvings and beyond and become zillionaires or sell a fraction of your stash to ensure a comfortable life and happy retirement. Remember: don't sell too early! Cool

2021 will be great, the greatest year in BTC history so far!   Kiss

Happy New Year WOers!

Two weeks late, but I don't think this has been posted yet (sorry in advance if it has)

The MtGox Rehabilitation Plan has been filed

Quote
[English Translation for Reference Purpose Only]
December 15, 2020
To whom it may concern:
Rehabilitation Debtor: MTGOX Co., Ltd.
Rehabilitation Trustee: Nobuaki Kobayashi, Attorney-at-law

Announcement of Filing of Draft Rehabilitation Plan

On December 15, 2020, the Rehabilitation Trustee filed a draft rehabilitation plan. The Tokyo District Court and an examiner will review the draft rehabilitation plan and determine whether to proceed with the rehabilitation proceedings relevant to the draft rehabilitation plan.

The Rehabilitation Trustee plans to explain the draft rehabilitation plan to the relevant parties in a timely and appropriate manner.
[End of document]

I realize that it's still a long time before any of those coins (~146,000) will be distributed to their righteous owners, but this is the furthest process we've made in 6 years.

I guess the next step is Court Approval.

Filed one day before the first new ATH in 3 years.....I think a lot of us who eventually get our coins back from the MtGox bankruptcy will continue to hold if it's still in a bull market.

Those who were inclined to sell instead of hold will likely have sold to Fortress Investments or one of the other large companies who've been buying up claims at a massive discount over the last couple of years.

I'm one of those. I've been offered numerous of times to sell my claim, but I haven't even been bothered to answer. I have no intention to sell any of those coins if/when I get them back. Remember that the Trustee holds a shitload of fiat too, that is supposed to be evenly distributed among the claimants. According to https://www.ozcoin.com.au/index.php 1 btc claim equals 0.18 btc PLUS $440.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Another day, another ATH ($29300 Stamp), another correction (actually2 mini-corrections) and right back where we were yesterday... currently $28512USD/$36350CAD Bitcoinaverage).

Last chance to hit $30k before midnight. Regardless, it's been a very good year.

Go Bitcoin go.

I get more emails from those buyers than I do from MtGox itself. Did MtGox stop emailing everyone on new filings?
Yes, I didn't recieve any email about this latest filing.

This is Bitcoin 29k compared with Bitcoin google search, and it will be sweet if things continue to go this way and trend goes up more.

MacLeod's latest

Leaving the Bitcoin Vs Gold discussion aside, he is really tying his credibility to a currency event occurring soon. Perhaps there are supporting factors like the FED hiding obvious jumps in money aggregators just like preventive hiding of the M3 numbers in 2006 just before Quantitive Easing. Is he taking a brave but perhaps foolish position?

Excellent read, thanks Wekkel.

Echo chamber gung-ho and btc fanatism aside, the scenario portrayed is gloomy but plausible. If all the predictions made in that paper come true, there will be gangs of starving bandits raiding cities and country. The citadel model - à la Snow Crash - cannot hold, unless we develop and deploy atomic guard dogs soon (Boston Dynamics, hellooo?).

I hope he's only half right. Even with bitcoin to the moon, we might be better off in a world that still makes sense.

2021 will be as interesting as 2020. Let's hope it leads us in a different direction.

Watching the Boston Dynamics recent video, I can't help thinking how shotgun resistant these things are or will be.
I'd love to find out, and probably will, but for now drones will have to do. Roll Eyes

I'm guessing that in order for all the motors, servos, actuators, etc. to work with any sort of nimbleness and efficiency and to preserve battery consumption, they had to use extremely light weight materials (both structure and cosmetic). Which of course precludes them for military use on the battlefield, because they can be rendered inoperable fairly quickly by simple, well-placed small arms fire.

I'm sure that the U.S. MIC is somewhat irked by that ironic revelation.  Wink

green lasers
electromagnetic fields
the good old pitfall

...

plenty of options.

There are also slugs. I mean, typical 12 gauge barrel is 0.727 inch diameter. That's gotta put a dent in any of those machines unless they are armor plated.

I suspect This Time Is Different(TM) in this regard, too: google searches should correlate less than they used to, because most of the public is more aware now than they used to be in the 2017 bull. I might be totally off track, though.

EVERYBODY needs to submit comments on the Fincen regulation that's being forced through.   The comment period was only 15 days, over Christmas and New Year's.  It's a transparent ploy.
When this regulation goes into effect you won't be able to withdraw crypto from exchanges the way you used to.  It's going to be KYC up the @$$.  You will have to lube up and bend over.  For any and all crypto withdrawals of any kind, you have to provide name and address of the receiver.
The comment period ends January 4.

The rule will
require banks and money service businesses (“MSBs”) to submit reports, keep records, and verify the identity of customers in relation to transactions involving convertible virtual currency (“CVC”) or digital assets with legal tender status (“legal tender digital assets” or “LTDA”) held in unhosted wallets (as defined below)
https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=FINCEN_FRDOC_0001-0121

Absolutely it is.

Comment here:
https://beta.regulations.gov/commenton/FINCEN-2020-0020-0001

Example comment:
"The proposed new rules impose unprecedented financial surveillance on many people like me who are participating in the crypto economy for legitimate purposes. The new requirements also mean that more personal financial information belonging to me and those I transact with will now be collected and retained by the government."

What will change my life is when 1 BTC > $10000. Then I will be gaining hundreds of thousands of $ (€ in my case). At that point (if we ever get there -- and I hope and believe we will), I will sell some (but not all) of my 15 BTC, enjoy my earnings, and still be in the Bitcoin rocket on its way to the moon. I do believe and speculate that this will happen and I expect this to take no longer than 10 years.
