Gents, please calm down a bit. absolute figures are nonsense because we are in the range of larger investors now with the price of 1 BTC. percentage change per 24h should be now the right tool for assessing the situation.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

The year started badly for me, I've been in bed for the last couple of days. High fever (up to 40 degC), diarrhea, it's fucking torture... Could be a cold, a flu, or COVID-19, I don't know. What I do know, is that I had to go to different places the last couple of weeks and most people I met either did not wear masks properly, or not at all. FUCKS! Measured my fever just now, it's 38 degC. It could mean it's subsiding. I hope so.
Lots of merit-worthy posts out there, you guys are awesome, my phone is next to my bed, trying to catch up. No merits to pass on, but that's no problem I see many of you have taken care of that.
Going back to bed, and hopefully whatever bug or virus I have will clear away soon.
Sounds like covid. Hate to say this, but I believe in facing reality: Make sure someone has access to your coins. Reason being I have had two people in December die of COVID. Both felt terrible, went to hospital, felt much better in 2 days, talked to me on the phone about how it really sucked, it wasn't the flu and holy fuck what a nightmare including the shits. The next morning both were dead. They go fast after getting "better". Please take care of yourself and watch this carefully. I hate seeing people die of this completely preventable shit.

Walked into my bank a couple days before Christmas wearing a mandatory face nappy for the last time. Also wore my BTC hat and proceeded to close my business account. The look on the bankers face showed that he thought I was nuts. Rarely have I felt more badass.

I had another chat with my friend, the gal who likes to discuss savings/stock market with me. Classical weak hands type. I wrote about her a while back, on Dec 7, 2020. Price was around the old ATH @19k . (here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg55770951#msg55770951 ) Today she wrote me and started with a message like "Why is Bit coin rising? The government should ban it cuz launder drug money blah blah". My first replies were curt. "Bitcoin: one word or you'll sound like a noob. The primary cleaning agent for laundering is USD by far." Then she said: "I am afraid, blah blah, so many types of bitcoin, how do I buy blah blah" I was gentler. "Only one kind, ticker is XBT or BTC. The other 'types' look cheaper because they're junk. Don't touch them." I went on - You need to open an account at an exchange. Try Bitstamp or Kraken. Avoid Coinbase if you can. You'll need to go through KYC/AML, money laundering my ass. Once you have a bunch, you'll need to make yourself a wallet and transfer them into your own possession. Bitcoiners say "Not your keys, not your coins". Long story short, I held up to her barrage of questions and gave her a crash course. More than anything, I told her to buy and hold. I spelt it wrong, just like this: hold. She's not advanced enough yet to be taught proper spelling. I said it might go down. I'm pretty sure it will go down and you'll suffer. That is when you have to buy more. That's the difference between happy and sad in the long run. At the end she said "Oh thank you. But you know, call me chicken but I won't." I'm pretty sure she'll come around. She'll probably want some at 50k. What could I reply to that? "Of course you're free to do as you please. Bitcoiners say 'Have fun staying poor' " Tell her that her fiat wealth is losing value at about -10%/year due to inflation, and tell her to calculate in her head how long it will take for her to be half as poor as she is today. If she can do simple math, it will scare the absolute shit out of her. If she can't do simple math, then she's too much of a simp normie to save herself.

You're probably right. I, too, have long forgone any evangelism. But this chick does care about her financial future, we've been talking money and stocks for a long time, she seemed so helpless... well, I failed and told her.
I'll be sure to poke her some more at 100k. She does deserve it if she doesn't get any btc and clings to her losing strategy of buying stocks and selling at the first dip wondering why she didn't pick the "really magic stock".
Honest answer: Sell her a bit penny. TAKE HER MONEY!, set up a wallet on her phone, and transfer a bitpenny to her as she hands you 300 320 340 whatever .01 BTC is worth Then let her hold it. Hold it as it goes up, down, wherever.

Anyone know someone up high at the NY Philharmonic Orchestra? When this COVID thing is over I think I want to donate money to them. In return I want a full concert performance of the song "The wheels on the bus go round and round"....
All verses.

WHEN is this thing gonna blow off some steam?? Amazing.
When the train ride we are all on stops at the station. Which doesn't look like it will anytime soon. As for what is causing this to kick off, just like as always, we won't know until the last minute like every other reason why it had kicked off in the past. We are the last ones to know the reasoning behind the pump up in price. New SEC director being appointed by biden administration being pro bitcoin? Paypal buying up more for their first quarter selling of it on their platform to US citizens? Coinbase delisting shitcoins(XRP I am looking at you! ) to make more room for bitcoin futures? Who the F knows.

Is refusing to sell coin to pay off debt basically the same as going into debt to buy coin? Kinda the thought process I have been struggling with..
yup -- no different . Keep stacking the assets and working down liabilities.... You don't need to have zero debt.

Rick and I just got back from getting coffee and running a couple errands. Rick looks over at one of our tickers upon return to the house and is all like...
Rick: "HOLY SHIT ! It's over $32k man. You just made another 7 digits while we were out!" Me: "OK. You want me to sell some more or something ?" Rick: "Hell no. LET IT RIDE !!!" Me: "OK." (Makes self a greyhound and continues to observe the wall)
Gentlemen.

Remember what a thrill it was to reach your first million dollars in Bitcoin? I celebrated by buying a new $1300 bass amp. Later that year I spent less than a coin to buy my first place in Mexico Remember trying not to get upset when it bottomed out not too many months later? Keeping the resolve to HODL knowing we'd be back? Enjoy these times. Some time in the future, earning 7 digits in a day will be old hat. We'll look back nostalgically at these exciting times when becoming rich was a novelty.
