Tip: Since i take the daily plunge in cold water or at least a 2-3 mins max cold shower, i need to have freezing temperatures to experience something like "cold".
Try it. There's no excuse but a heart condition or raynauds syndrome, but you can use neopren socks and gloves, works for up to five minutes in freezing cold water.
It really is quite satisfying, yes. And yeah, I've always been interested in the daily cold water plunge idea, but I do actually have raynauds - so it's out of the question for me, unfortunately. In fact, raynaulds gets triggered by taking a cold milk bottle out of the fridge these days.
Funny coincidence there...
I have a light form of it, and there are two things that improved things with raynaud's to OK levels:
1. The Wim Hof breathing technique (preferably 2-3 times daily, after some trial&error starting period).
2. Using neoprene gloves and socks.
The technique seems to improve blood circulation in the small vessels. You can kind of feel it after some practice.
I was using gloves and socks before, but now i just keep my hands out of the water now and dip them in later, 30-60 secs before i get out. 1 Minute is the longest i can take the growing pain, but the good thing is that recovery is setting in really fast, after about a minute or two in the warm, i get red fingers again.
Today i fixed the nets of the chicken compound, because they were bent because of wet snow. The fingers even good bloodshot after half an hour in the cold, only that touching the net lines was hurting like needle stitches. Needless to say, before doing the breathing and cold plunge thing i could make about ten snowballs with my hbare hands until the pain got too heavy.
For comparison: When i take out a cold bottle of milk from the fridge, i got cold fingers for up to 15 minutes, with that wrinkly, thick skin which stays the way you pinch/form it for a while. This is no issue any more. I also can stay a while with cold feet and hands outside, the pain is zero for up to an hour, just feeling icy cold in the toes and feet (I blame this on the plunge).
I don't know how severe your raynaud's is, but maybe the method works for you too.
Originally, i had the idea from youtube, where i came across a video from a younger guy suffering from raynaud's telling the audience that this improved his cold tolerance by a lot.
EDIT: I just remembered when i got aware of RS. The first cold plunge of my wife in a lake, at 5°C. I just tried it out of curiosity. She was standing knees deep in the water, when i walked into it, my feet already started hurting from the cold ground, when after about 5 seconds in the water, 8 inches deep, my feet and ankles felt like getting slowly crushed by a vice. I was humping out as fast as possible, just to find out that drying my feet with the towel burned like fire. Since then i knew there was something wrong with blood circulation in the extremities. It seems it came at the same time as that health and fitness breakdown of mine, about 12 years ago now. I could never ever imagine to take cold, even cool showers following that. I just faded into it over summer, when it was easier. Still, what i considered "cold shower" at the beginning was lukewarm in reality.
