In the USA are property taxes paid at the state level?
Here in Ontario taxes are collected municipally. In Mexico we don't pay any property taxes.
Every part of USA is different.
I used to live in New York City
5 counties under 1 city .
New York City collected the property taxes. Wont get into school tax. As it is part of property tax.
so feds/new york state/new york city/ five different counties/ many little areas in the counties.
but new york city is the handler of the property/school taxes not the counties or little areas in the counties.

I now live in Howell NJ which is a township in Monmouth County.
So Usa feds/ New Jersey/Monmouth county/ Howell
The property tax bill is Handled by Howell.
three parts to it.
A piece goes to Monmouth county.
A piece goes to school taxes which consists of five towns or townships in monmouth county
a piece goes to Howell township.
but no coin goes to New Jersey gov
and no coin goes to fed gov.
we pay 4 payments a year

my bro in law is in nassau county ny.
he gets two bills a year for school tax
he gets two bills a year for property tax.
he would be
Fed/NY state/Nassau county/township in of north hempstead/municipality of new hyde park
and he makes the four payments to north hempstead not sure how they spend it all.
