I just realized that until this weekend, every-single-time I've come to the US since my youngest was born, I've been asked for ID to check into a hotel, even though I book well in advance and pay up front with my credit card. I used to argue because the credit card companies forbade asking for ID in order to use the card but eventually I gave up. This week, I've checked into 3 different hotels with three different parent companies and not one of them asked to see my ID! I can hardly wait until I travel here next time to see if this is a new trend or some sort of election-time anomaly. Maybe they'll stop asking me for ID to purchase alcohol too... strange.
With the hotel though, they're not so much asking for your ID to use the card so much as to stay in the hotel so that's somewhat understandable. In Italy, they took my passport. That didn't give me the best of feels. |
