Metaplanet is Japan’s Most Shorted Stock, Says CEO Amid Global Short Squeeze Speculation

CEO Simon Gerovich [warned] that betting against the company is like betting against Bitcoin.

Short sellers, betting the stock will fall, are now under pressure as the company’s shares hit upper daily price limits and trading halts were triggered on the Tokyo Stock Exchange for two consecutive days.

Blockstream CEO Adam Back posted on X saying that in his opinion the stock is still relatively cheap based on historic mNAV ranges, and on months to cover metric.

“Shorting it seems like a really bad idea to me! This is the second 3350:TYO circuit-breaker limit-up day in a row, really bad timing to be short.”

With the TSE temporarily restricting access, short sellers have turned to OTC trading in international markets to cover their positions. However, these exchanges offer significantly lower liquidity, forcing traders to compete for a limited supply of shares, often at prices above their original short-sale levels. This dynamic has led to mounting speculation of a global short squeeze in the making

For context, Metaplanet is like a smaller Japanese (Micro)Strategy. Are we going to see another GameStop story? This time these hedge funds shorted the corn by proxy. Will they ever learn to leave bitcoin alone? In a bull run, of all times? I really hope they get burned badly and learn for good.

The House began by adopting an amendment from Representative Linda Garcia (D-TX) that doubled the required market capitalization period from 12 to 24 months.

Buoyed by strong bipartisan support, the House passed the Senate Bill 21 with a 105-23 vote, advancing it to a third reading.

The bill is a "forward-thinking measure" that would help recognize digital assets "not as a trend but as a strategic opportunity" key to "strengthening the state's fiscal resilience," Giovanni Capriglione (R-TX), its House sponsor, said before the final vote.


I bolded the 500 billion cap for 24 months in a row

as it is a lot like New Hampshire's requirement.

and it means only BTC meets the requirement  which is very important as Eth would need at least a rise to 4200 price and stay over that for 2 years.

Since Eth at 2500 and 305b cap does not qualify.

Sooo with luck it takes forever to be add in.

At worst it will take over 2 years to get added in.

Oh well, it's even worse with that petro-shitcoin than I feared. While being enthusiastic about eyeing a new ATH, I checked against my local fiat currency:

Current ATH sits according to Kraken at CHF 99'300 at 19th of January this year. Currently corn is trading at ~ CHF 88'500. So I personally am more than 10% away from a real life ATH.

Current ATH compared to Gold happened around the same time with with roughly 38 oz / piece of corn, now it is trading at ~32.2 - almost 20% under an ATH.

I am not going to celebrate a new ATH before >$120k and that is under the premise that his orange majesty Dollar Dump doesn't manage to devalue the $ even more (admittedly, it seems he is amazingly good at that and the pace is unprecedented).

My point is, measuring BTC against USD has become truly self-deceiving.

Maybe it's time to indeed measure against something meaningful like kg of ramen for one bitcoin.
