I don't know what's funnier in this case, the fact that the Bitcoin Foundation apparently still exists, or that Roger of all people is considered an 'Honored Speaker'.

Maybe I missed something happening the last few years, but I remember the foundation going down in flames pretty hard.

I read that "Foundation" had members who later went to jail

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I don’t think they went down in flames completely. They just changed direction.

They hired a known pedophile to the board and started selling child porn on the deep web for BitcoinCash. LOL

I'm guessing that must be the Brock guy who was a child actor in some semi-big movies, right?

That or they're adding more shady people with weird links to pedos...yikes.

I was joking but yeah, they did hire that Brock pedo.

The Bitcoin Foundation was never a serious organization. TBF was a collection of the initial criminals that controlled bitcoin. They had a lot of clout with the core bitcoin users of the early days and were able to scam tons of money from forum users for membership fees and donations. Roger Ver was one of the founding scumbags along with his criminal co-conspirators Mark Karpeles, Charlie Shrem, Peter Vessenes and Gavin Andresen. All of them ended up being ether grifters like Vess or were outright sent to prison like Shrem.

They are gone now. I think they were desolved in 2015-16 because it was discovered the grifters, perverts and convicts were hiding the fact that the organization was completely insolvent (they stole all the money and closed the doors).

Is he still knee deep in the pile with Craig Wright the scammer? From where I was sitting it looked like he got fully taken in by the con and pretty much ruined his reputation. Pretty wild situation. I don't know what he could possibly be thinking.

I was't aware that Matonis was considered a scammer. How has he stolen, and from whom has he stolen?

Anyone with a campaign ad in their signature -- for an organization with which they are not otherwise affiliated -- is automatically deducted credibility points.

I've been convicted of heresy. Convicted by a mere known extortionist. Read my Trust for details.

I have no idea what his current situation is, but he was definitely all-in on supporting the scammer/imposter Craig Wright.

Now personally, I think he's probably more of a victim than a scammer himself. Especially during the early period. But at some point if time goes on and he doesn't own up to the mistake and denounce Craig, then someone could probably make a decent argument to label him something like a 'scammer' or similar.

yeah i should've used the word 'scumbag', as did QA. matonis was right there with the bitcoin foundation scam.
Then there is also the CSW nonsense. Not to be trusted, any of them.

Ver has made many mistakes, quite sad really.

He advocated all was well at MtGox and made that infamous video about it. He also created Bitcoin Cash and then caused confusion because of his bitcoin.com domain name. The Bitcoin Foundation was a pathetic failure run by people who seeked to boost their own ego rather than do anything else.

Yes, this sums up your feelings very well about the rumored Bitcoin, 301k that threatens the cheap price. Ver Logger may have a stack of coins, but there must be more initial users who want to store BTC rather than forkcoin. 301 initial users with 1k each can exit-discard Ver. Especially considering BTU order book will be very thin come day, with a much lower price to boot. You want to know who gave up. If Mr. Ver does not take it, the topic will give him bad publicity. However, if you have the option to choose the same cash prize in BU and Bitcoin you will choose Bitcoin in an instant. BU still has a long way to go.

If youre Roger though there is no risk because BTU coin and a fork will happen, right?  Personally the only thing I hope to see tomorrow is the sun again.

You can already speculate on BTU coins if it becomes available for a price below BTC so 1 for 1 trade. Very silly atm no one can not even a fool would take the deal. There is no way you will do with this deal, you will lose any power that is in the core chain.

Maybe he's being censored, maybe he's not. But the accusations probably aren't completely false and newcomers need to have the FULL DECENTRALIZED STORY. Maybe core has the better developers, who knows? Is segwit tougher to code than BU? It's all fucking nonsense because not making the correct decision for Bitcoin is scary shit. That's why I tend to side with the least riskier core implementation, but BU doesn't sound terrible.

It's not even a question that Core has better developers. Not even close imo. There's tons of reasons why anything to do with Roger Ver, particularly BCH should in fact sound very terrible. Just reading about him should be setting off huge red flags.

Ver wont take the bet but if he does I'll throw all my BTU at his BTC any day of the week. Roger Ver is an opporunist, he will support whatever chain that gives him advantage. He also could be supporting the blockchain split so that he could double his coins.

Well Ver does have a bad reputation for being greedy and opportunistic throughout the community but it seems as though he did not back out of the deal, it seems the other party did.
