Someone is making a go at it and then does not pay up. Meanwhile, the potato is locked for others. Abuse by one single user?

Greetings All, from http://bitpotato.com/static/bitpotato.pngitPotato.com!

It does in fact turn out there was a mistake implementing the locking fix to the double payment bug, that prevented it from properly working. The locking mechanism has now been properly implemented, hopefully. At this point we're not ready to declare the bug fixed until we stop encountering it on the live site. We're crossing our fingers for when the timers expire and new potatoes are bought.

Rest assured, if there are any payment errors during the next round they will be caught and rectified ASAP. We'd like to maintain a high level of transparency regarding this issue, so we can better assure our community that the bug has been resolved. Integrity is our number one priority, and we want you all to feel comfortable using Bit Potato for all of its current and future services!

As always, we deeply appreciate your patronage and understanding. We will keep a close eye on our logs to make sure the system is operating without a hitch, and report back here once we've verified the condition of the bugfix. If you have any issues with the site, please do not hesitate to send a message to our support email, which can be found in the FAQ section of our site. Any and all information you can provide is greatly appreciated, so that we can be sure this issue is resolved once and for all!

Best Wishes,
The Bit Potato Staff

Also, a brief follow up:
We have been receiving your messages concerning players abusing the ability to lock the potato, with no intention of making a payment. While the 24 hour sell period allows ample time for a legitimate payment to be made, we have acknowledged the potential for abuse, and are currently implementing a system to monitor and temporarily or permanently ban users who are abusing the potato locking system.

Sincerely,
Bit Potato Staff

So far this morning, I have clicked on at least 2 different potatoes that were supposedly available in order to buy it, and then nothing happened. I tried several more times, and eventually the potato becomes listed as "Waiting for payment". Is somebody else just beating me to it, or am I doing something wrong here?

Also, "Make your payment to the address we send you. (Add Transaction Fees!)" how is this address sent to us? Does it just popup on the screen?

EDIT: Ah, now I see. Looks like people have just been relentlessly spamming the buy buttons.

It is better that you don't come trough and someone else buys the potato,
yesterday multiple people came trough on spamming the buy button and potatoes ended up with different owners  Undecided

So be glad they have fixed it!

Spamming clicking directs a user to bitpotato.com/# instead of bitpotato.com
On this URL it isn't possible to buy a potato, is it?
Is that the current fix?

You need to add a captcha to buy a potato or change the name to bot-bitpotato.

It was a cool idea until day 2 when the potato buy bots were done and deployed then it became a battle between bots until a certain LTC range

No, the button always directs you to bitpotato.com/#, the actual clicking is handled through javascript. The fix to the bug is purely server-side.

Also this would be a good time to remind you all that if you enter a domain, the button with your username above the potato will link to that website! It seems very few people are taking advantage of this feature, you can use it as advertising for your websites!

A captcha would be a great idea. Impossible to get a POTATO with all these bots... Kind of unfair :'

Once again, we heavily stress the fact that there is a much higher likelihood of you missing your buy because when the potatoes reset there are 50-100 users all mashing the buy button. Even though it is of course possible (and likely) that some users have set up bots, legitimate users have just as much of a chance of landing the buy than a bot just from clicking the potato. A captcha would make it harder to lock down the potato, yes, but if a user is determined enough there are captcha cracking services/bots and more importantly it detracts from the simplicity of the site. It's kind of like software DRM. You're making the legitimate users suffer for a solution that will be bypassed in instants by anyone who actually wants to. If it ever does become a serious issue, rest assured it will be addressed.

We appreciate your understanding,
