Thanks for checking it out, and that was my opinion on it from the beginning.  I'm not surprised at all that I came across something copy/pasted (that's happened many times before), but I'm disappointed that had that been the bitcointalk member's original work, it would have been worthy of merit and it would have been a pleasure to give merit to a Newbie.  As I've said before, it's really sad that you have to check for plagiarism before giving merits to lower-ranked members.

So long as the biggest part of what a user writes is original, I wouldn't consider including some text from another source a bad thing.
Judged by academic standards, it would be considered plagiarism and unethical if the source wasn't disclosed though. or even if the source wasn't cited correctly.

Eh, I don't completely agree with that.  If you're copying words from another site, you should cite the source and ideally should provide a link for the reader to verify it.

Amazes me that people think this is OK and that they're not going to get caught.  It's unfortunate because the one I found had some pretty interesting info in it, and Mister99 could have done what Hydrogen does, which is to quote the article with a citation and then provide a little discussion-opener on it.

I have another question:

If a thread is obviously filled with low effort responses, many of which are plagiarized, then I think it would be safe to assume that much of this spam is done for promotional purposes. Those are obviously against the rules, as incentivized posting in a specific thread is not allowed.

Are mods checking for when spam in a thread would become to much to lock it or delete it? Or would it help to also crowdsource that kind of reporting?

Right now I see most of the  accounts reported here banned, often in the same day... Which is good. But what about those that actually paid for the spamming? The OPs of the thread and the projects being promoted? Why should the rest of the thread remain up if it is generating so many pages of spam in a day.

Most of his posts are from a website named coindelite, I presume that he may be a paid promotional poster for the website,though he mentions only in some of his posts. Most of the threads generating insane amount of spam are being deleted or locked up if we report them. These kinds of mega spam threads are common in Alt Discussion. Mods would be quite busy in the Alt Discussion, they might have more work apart from locking and deleting a thread as the board is a hotbed for Referral Code Spams, Scams and Phishing Sites.

Hence, it would be better if we report the mega spam thread rather than waiting for MOD to lock them.

You can better check that up by joining the SpamBusters Club. They discuss these sorts of issues quite often.
