...
EDIT:
Just checked. Within Europe, it is not as expensive as I thought
~ 11 EUR, insured up to 500EUR and with tracking. (DHL)

Would that include also the countries outside EU but in Europe?

I have to check each country individually.
Check it out for yourself https://www.dhl.de/en.html

All ASICMINER products that have been auctioned off thus far have been borderline scams at the prices they're going at. I know.. they were auctions.. but still, 75 BTC for 10Gh.. now 2 BTC for 300Mh (or however fast their chip is).

No thanks. They are just making money from suckers... people that don't understand the economics and the inevitable explosion of difficulty that will come in the next few month.

This is just a novelty IMO. No serious Bitcoin miner should pay these prices.

Quite right on one count.  These are not for serious mining.  These are ""a thousand points of light" (If I can quote George Bush the 1st).  They will help spread the gospel of bitcoin far and wide.  Imagine a hipster with his laptop in a bar with his friends, buying a round of drinks with the profits from this little USB thingy with an LED?  Priceless.  They tell all their friends.  Now multiply this little scene 10,000 times.

Easily worth 1.99 to a lot of people.  Just not serious miners.

no worries. way i figure it, gotta start somewhere. and with this power usage, i'll happily run it forever.

but yea, for anyone trying to profit on mining, this is perhaps not the best way to go.

i don't post much, but this space for rent.

At this point, 1BTC per unit would be about fair considering it's a bulk order. 2BTC would be aprox. retail price. And that's now, in a few months with difficulty shooting up it could be much worse.

At this price I would get myself 4 or 5 right now, just for the novelty and to help spread mining. I can afford all 300 but I think it's not a good price and it would be much worse in August...

i agree completely. with this being effectively a whole sale price, it's a bit steep.

maybe we'll get lucky and when friedcat and co see this reaction they'll ...act? i don't know.

I might be interested in 1-2

Currently I only collect non-binding interest.
Just post the desired quantity and destination here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195037.0

With sufficient interest, we can plan more accurately.
Antistatic packaging etc

This thread you've linked to is German.  I assume this is located in Germany? Smiley  Anyone in US looking to participate in group buy?  I'm in for 1.

yup, right here i'm in utah. i don't currently have the full 1.99 btc... but i can in time.

so, i'm in for 1, at current price point. i'd also be happy to organize it. (which was kinda my intent with this thread, but clearly i fail at clarity.)

If you're organizing this, then I'm in for 2. It's worth it just to see it with my own eyes.

This is what I am pointing out too.  2btc is a fine retail price if they ship small orders directly to buyers (shipping included in the 2btc since it is small item)

We should petition ASICminer to either lower the 300 group buy to a wholesale price or have them handle the burden of taking orders and shipping to buyers.

Remember this is their first run of these.  Hopefully they get considerably cheaper.

I was interested in becoming a US wholesaler, but at 2btc wholesale pricing I just can't see people paying the margin you'd need to make on a risky venture.  Any wholesaler in it for the long game will be adding at least 50% margin to that in order to make sure they can make a profit and get more when they run out.

Is there really a market for $250-300 300mhash miners?  I think some, but I'm not betting 600btc on there being a market for even 300 of the devices.  You can whine about pricing things in btc all day if you want to, but the main market for these will be the hobbyist who wants to get into bitcoin and will have to fund that via USD.  So the US dollar cost of these is going to be very relevant.

You can put me down for 10 in your group buy. I am also buying 300 myself for re-sale.

These are the devices that are going to keep Bitcoin decentralized. If we end up with ASICMINER doing all the hashing themselves, maybe competing with a few other massive farms, the entire P2P concept is out the window.

These allow the average user to keep mining Bitcoin with their personal computers. Selling 10,000 of these will put 3,000,000 MH/s back in the hands of the small-time miners and hobbyists, and more importantly keep them out of the hands of centralized farms and large corporations. BTC will be almost useless if all the mining becomes centralized.

People who think that an investment paying off in 10-12 months is terrible are delusional. Take your chances with BFLs $200 5 GH vapourware, see how that works out for you. You won't have it by Christmas if you order today. Meanwhile, myself and everyone I know will be plugging in these bad boys before JUNE.   Cool

Those who were hoping to pay $50 and make a massive profit instantly... I don't feel sorry for you. That's not how business works. ASICMINER doesn't need to sell these for what they earn in two months because they aren't trying to get pre-orders to fund their project... they have already done that and are ready to ship. There is no risk for the end customer, they will get their 300 MH/s right away.

If you wanted to make 10x returns on your BTC, you should have taken the risk and invested in ASICMINER's IPO. You can't expect a successful company to give away products for far less than what people are willing to pay for them.
