There are multiple coins out there right now that have the potential for their price to go 2x 3x or even 5x then being dumped. If you get in at the right moment then you can have some decent profit, however most of these new altcoins do not have a real long term future. They are just out there to quickly grab some cash and possibly you can profit off that too.
My pick for 2018 is DeepOnion for various reasons, and I really do not want to sound heavily invested by saying these (and I am really not, I admit that I've a couple hundred $ worth of onions but not more than that).
The team of DeepOnion is really active both on the development side, constantly fixing issues, and releasing new features and also on the communication side.
I have seen countless numbers of coins with fancy "communications manager" and "vice president of public relations" and other kind of bullshit positions however the experience with deeponion is that, if you have a question towards the devs or the community you can expect a clear and trustworthy answer in half an hour.
As this community is growing exponentially so is the price of onions. It just broke the 10$ mark which is still very low given the fact that the total supply of this coin is 19 million, so there is a lot more space to grow.
I could start listing all the "nice" features and anonymity this coin has (you can read the whitepaper too) but my opinion is that new tech can be implemented to any coin at almost any time so I value usability and the community a lot more as those are some pillars that can not be replaced/developed as quickly as new tech.
2018 will be big for DeepOnion and even if you are looking for profits, I can tell you that the price in 3 months won't be lower than now for sure
