there is possibility that bitcoin will be replaced by another cryptocurrency because of the high transaction fee I think ETH slowly crawling to be number 1 crypto but bitcoin is the mother of all coins, well we don't know what will happen in the future, it could it be or not.
I agree most people do not like to pay high transaction fees which makes it unpopular for people who use it for their daily usage and resort to other cryptocureencies such as ETH that do not require to wait for a very long time to receive in our wallet. Its for this reason i think there is a chance another crypto can replace bitcoin.

I still think that ETH is not a currency and it is just a application to run what you intended to run and on the other hand bitcoin is a currency which has real value and that wont change unless and until there is any technical failure in bitcoin,my other options are Zcash ,Monero and litecoin

Yes it is possible that some other cryptocurrency may replace Bitcoin because transaction in Bitcoin charge very high fees and Bitcoin has very high block time as compared to other altcoins like litecoins which have a block time of 2.5 mins. But the shift from Bitcoin is not possible in next 5 or so years.

i do this question because i´ve read in this website issues with bitcoin, slow mining process, high fees, etc. and i´ve read too good reviews of some altcoins, ethereum (smart contracts), ripple (for transfers between banks), dash and nem. these altcoins called 2.0. could bitcoin become just in future virtual gold reserved to companies and rich people?
It is possible that Bitcoin will be surpassed by another cryptocurrency but it is not highly possible. There are some issues regarding the use of Bitcoin but I believe that some actions are being made at this very moment. Would the Bitcoin developers want to see another cryptocurrency replace Bitcoin? No, so they will resolve the issue.

With the slow confirmation, actually it can happen also to other alt coins when they are being crowded by users. It's like a test scenario in bitcoin and possible those coins will also upgrade when they experience it. Bitcoin is already a virtual gold to everyone of the people here. But I doubt it will be replaced soon.

At first I thought it was impossible for Bitcoin to be replaced since it is the first cryptocurrency, but you are right, some altcoins may have better features than Bitcoin and people may prefer them instead. Here's an analogy, lets imagine all cryptocurrencies are like mobile phones. Bitcoin is Nokia, and started the mobile phone trend. And soon after everyone started using Nokia. But brands like Blackberry, Samsung and Apple soon created their own phones, and Apple made a major breakthrough with a touchscreen function, where everyone gradually switched to that after a while, and now Nokia is outdated. Bitcoin has our trust now, but other cryptocurrencies might overtake BTC in the future. Yes that's right. Bitcoin may be replaced with other cryptocoin. And drown like nokia. If he does not make good innovations to his members.

A few months back I probably thought this would be impossible, but after spending some more time looking at alt coins my view of this has been slightly changed. In the next 10 or so years, I still think it is impossible for bitcoin to be overtaken unless some drastic event happens that no one could foresee. Bitcoin is trusted and fairly popular, compared to other alt coins. It would take another cryptocurrency with the same or more trust and popularity for it to even have a chance of overtaking this. Another way for an altcoin to overtake Bitcoin, would for it to fix Bitcoin’s flaws. Maybe the altcoin that overtakes bitcoin has a fast confirmation speed, lower transactions and etc. I certainly wouldn’t mind using that type of cryptocurrency. This is a really good example of bitcoin. Bitcoin mostly started the whole cryptocurrency thing (although there were other cryptocurrencies made, they all crashed) but maybe in the future their would be new cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin might be overtaken.

There is a lot of potential cryptocurrency that can compete in bitcoin like ethereum and also it is not that like bitcoin in terms of price but it has potential in the future that can replace bitcoin.

I think bitcoin will not be replaced with another cryptocurreny, because if we have to look at the btc price right now; no other cyptocurrency beats it's price. Comparing it to ethereum today, it has nothing to do with price competition which mainly other people have compared it and also speculate about bitcoin's death in the system.

Yes other crypto currency will not replaced bitcoin because the price of bitcoin is very rise and high as compare to ethereum and other crypto currency , and in bitcoin many people has invest money, many people has also do trading and daily wise bitcoin is going to popular as compare to ethereum or other crypto currency and I do not think that other crypto currency will replaced bitcoin.

I don't think that there is a lot of money that is being bet on Bitcoin's death, a lot of the money in Ethereum is because of ICOs and tokens that is provides which are typically more ETH heavy rather than anything else. It's a big speculator's currency, and that's mostly why there is a lot of money being pushed into that asset as opposed to somewhere else. Once the Bitcoin community fixes the blocksize it hopefully will not longer be a contest as to what the dominant crypto is.

Like most of the people replying on this thread, they used to think this would be impossible, but after spending more thought on this issue I have come to the conclusion that this might actually be possible, there was an example someone made with Bitcoin being Nokia and how it started the cryptocurrency thing. The wrong thing about is that Bitcoin isn't the first cryptocurrency made, I am pretty sure there were other cryptocurrencies before bitcoin but they all failed. Bitcoin is the first successful cryptocurrency. I still think the chances of Bitcoin being overtaken or it crashing are super low since in all of its lifetime bitcoin has been number one and I don't think that will change anytime soon. Right now Bitcoin has our trust and money, let's hope that it remains the same.

In the short term, probably not. There have been a lot of other alt currencies (etherium, litecoin, dogecoin, monero etc) that have been popping up, but don't seem to have what Bitcoin does. Bitcoin is clearly a protocol for sending value around the internet. Any computer science geek can tell you it meets all the requirements to be a bona fide protocol. I think down the road potentially, but as of now the focus seems to be on how to make Bitcoin better, safer, faster transaction and more accessible.
