Primecoin being restricted to CPU mining at the moment doesn't really matter when you only pull at most 4000 PPS on a non-specialized computer, considering people have VPS clusters totaling 100k PPS. Hopefully a GPU miner will make VPS mining inefficient.

No doubt. I feel Primecoin is going to give us alot more worldwide exposure that we've needed. Hopefully more devs can build off this innovation

This one seems to be one of the best modified clients for primecoins: https://github.com/mikaelh2/primecoin

I'm getting 2.5k primes on a intel quad core (Core 2 Quad) @ 3GHz, and had sub 1k figures with the official client

If you can not convert altcoins into anything of value how and why would someone expect them to compete with an already established crypto-currency such as Bitcoin of which is increasingly gaining market adoption from anywhere to local pubs to ATM's?

primecoin sounds interesting. I ran some projects on boinc - that looks somewhere the same, but in crypto style.
But for now, i see here no profit - only hobby intrest in harvest, harvest all coins  Grin

Hard to trust, but we all are in dispair since no newbie was a btc miner from the beggining.

All those altcoins are subject to hardcore manipulation.
Unless you are one of the manipulators, stay as far away as you can.

I'm just getting into Bitcoins/Altcoins and am preparing to start mining.  I see there are variable opinions on whether or not that's a good idea now that ASICS are coming out, so I was thinking of putting my hardware towards Litecoin mining.  Is that a bad choice as well?  I'm certainly late to the show here...

This might be a noob question, but why doesn't this forum adapt an escrow service like Bitmit? I guess no one wants to go through the trouble of sorting out complains but it would make deals a lot safer here.

It is a noob question, although interesting in the most inappropriate thread possible.

Sorry if it seemed off-topic, it was in response to the "good info" included in the OP.

Hello there!

I would definitely not recommend going after BTC. Leave that to the ASICS. Your best bet is to mine ltc and an altcoin. If I had to recommend an altcoin it would be Primecoin (XPM). It can only be cpu mined currently and is becoming pretty well established fairly quickly. Also the creator of it is SunnyKing, the same guy who brought us PPC.

The easiest option is to go register on BTC-E and put the wallet address from BTC-E into your pool.
