Mining doge since tues night and have about 1.6m. Difficulty is now 41.

Should I just keep at it?

What hardware were you mining with?  Just wondering how much hash you needed to get that amount of DOGE a few days ago.

This list is fairly comprehensive and updates quite frequently.

Altcoins offer so much to us in just terms of having fun with coins. Not to mention potential investments Cheesy.

...and losses? I bet there are some cases of "failed" altcoins..

As far as I understood ltc and ppc are quite good options as btc alternatives, right?!

Just started to get familiar with ppc (tips much appreciated: PPV4kiTcechpv4gUnque5HCbxefsxDvpAJ)

What currencies are the best to mine?

Depends on what you mean by best? There's lots of options and will depend on what rig/computer you've got. It's more profitable trying to mine an up and coming coin rather than one like BTC/LTC.

Hi guys newbie here just saying hello.  I've been mining doge a bit but forgot my password on the pools webpage http://pool.testserverino.de/  and I can't get hold of the support.  I signed up here to post on their thread but I can't post there yet as I'm stuck in the noob section.  Sad

Just seen the readme guess I got to wait 4 hours.  Wish I've seen it when I first signed up.

I forgot to say I've been using multipool.us to mine with as they mine the most profitable coins and which between them.

Is anyone encountered this recently?  "Error: The transaction was rejected.  This might happen if some of the coins in your wallet were already spent, such as if you used a copy of wallet.dat and coins were spent in the copy but not marked as spent here."

I was mining casinocoins CSC and when I tried to transfer them to an exchange I received that message.

The coins were taken from my wallet and I can see the transaction here (http://casinocoin.mooo.com/tx/f9f03a686d7ddcdb0671fc64d552fcdcde5714a011e9a8906ebb42c8d9beccce#i312) but not ending up at the destination.  I waited 4 hours and tried again, but same message popped up and again no coins.

I googled the quote and tried to rescan my wallet but didn't seem to do anything.

Any advice?  Still a newbie or would have posted in the casino coin section.

In case someone runs into this, patience fixed it.  I always mined via pools but when you mine p2pools the coins need time to mature.  When I made a transfer, it used some of the newly, (but not matured) minted coins and caused an 18 hour delay.

It is hard to say that Altcoins will be a waste of time.  I find that many of the have unique features that make them unique and interesting.  If you think about the development of almost all other concepts on the web they become long tail.  I am not sure that this will not be the case with Alt coins as well.  Take Mastercoin for example, it has a feature specifically designed to allow anyone to publish a coin and value it to a Bitcoin.  Altcoin may very well be the long tail future of Ecoins.  http://ecoinclub.com/pick-altcoins/

Almost all of the alt-coins out there are going to be a waste of time.  They're being created to take advantage of people who get super excited about different things and then get pumped and dumped.

Be careful about wasting time with too many alt coins.

Be careful about downloading files, seems like there's plenty of wallet stealers around hidden as alt coin miners.
Seen some more of this recently, so wanted to highlight the point.

Here's some good info from later in the thread:
1) Don't just trust the status of a member, anyone can write 500 posts and be a hero member in a short period. This just means that he invested some time on his membership. He can always decide that a profitable scam will be a good payment for his time.
2) Never deal with anyone without doing a search in the forum with his nickname, in order to check if he has scam accusations.
3) Ask for his coin address and always search it on blockchain.info or www.cryptocoinexplorer.com to verify if his address has the amounts he is claiming.
4) Be very suspicious about proposals well under market price or if he accepts your proposal under market price with no negotiation.
5) Look for the reputation of the member (his successful trades, in the form of vouches from the other party on the deal).
6) Even if he has some reputation, never send all the money in one transfer: send one first very small tranche (0.1 btc might be a good start) and wait for his payment. Send a second little higher tranche and wait again, etc. Small increments, because he might decide to pay you the first and second, to scam a bigger tranche. Always suspect if he doesn't accept to trade in small tranches.
7) If he has no reputation (including most cases when he is a newbie or a Jr.), even small tranches are a risk. Better use an escrow system, like the one of bitmit.net, or a trusted member, or you might need to send over 10 very small tranches. It can be annoying, but loosing your money will be more.
8] For big amounts always use an escrow system, unless the member has an excellent reputation.

Since this thread is a sticky, I decided to post this here. Any moderator or member feel free to move, copy or improve these rules at will.

I am a poor newbie abd I can post just here :-(
