Almost all of the alt-coins out there are going to be a waste of time.  They're being created to take advantage of people who get super excited about different things and then get pumped and dumped.

Be careful about wasting time with too many alt coins.
I agree about wasting time -- and money! -- on alt coins.  But I think it's a bit unfair to characterize the alt coin universe with the broad stroke, "They're being created to take advantage of people who get super excited about different things and then get pumped and dumped." That seems like the pot calling the skillet black. A bit disingenuous, is it? Kind of like the descendants of poor European immigrants to the U.S. now decrying the immigration of poor Latinos to the U.S. Just because one was here first does not justify demeaning all who come later.

Dogecoin is the best altcoin, not even an altcoin it is THE coin.

No reason to mine when you can dig.

In all seriousness Dogecoin has the ability to grow very useable and profitable.

Most interesting for me is NXT by now. Greatest reason — only Proof-of-Stake mining/forging (keeping network up) instead of Proof-of-Work/PoW+Pos. PoS doesn't require highrate-hashing hardware or big amount of kWh wasted Smiley

Lot of people claim to support their coin as the "One" but the fact is many coins have beginning like dogecoin did and are dying now.
The new cryptocurrencies are listed about bitcoin or Litecoin if bitcoin fall, everybody fall...

Quote
1)  Which alt-coin currently has a high SHORT TERM value (over 6 months from now) and why?

  2)  Conversely, which alt-coin has a high LONG TERM value (over 1 year from now) and why?

- Watch coins with real innovations which are not only clones
- Coins with good developpement team is crucial when it begin to growing up and not only followers who only want to be early adopters

in this time I only see PrimeCoin in these case (excepting Bitcoin and Litecoin)if you ear about others i'll be glad to know them

I've started to mine EAC... Can this coin repeat success of DOGE? What do you think?

I doubt it, Doge was a very specific phenomenon due to its meme status.

Hi everyone,

I am quite new to this whole scene (i.e. bitcoin and alt-coins), but it has been one of my biggest hobbies for the past weeks, and I'd like to quickly say "Thanks!" to this forum, which has helped me tremendously with the learning curve.

I finally made an account, and I would like to ask a few questions:

  1)  Which alt-coin currently has a high SHORT TERM value (over 6 months from now) and why?

  2)  Conversely, which alt-coin has a high LONG TERM value (over 1 year from now) and why?

Thank you all in advance!
Profitability and long or short term value aren't necessarily the same.  A coin that's a turd can be very profitable, but not worth holding a short or long time.  Check out coinchoose.com

I'm keeping my hopes and expectations high for Dogecoin. It's honestly the only altcoin I can see gaining a following as massive as bitcoin's.

Exactly my opinion. Although I'm still a bit worried about NXT because it's so different from all other BTC/Cryptsy coins, but hey, no risk no fun Smiley

I would say that some alt coins are an obvious waste of time.  But to say that all of them are a waste of time is not true.  You need to know when to trade your alt coins for a different alt coin or bitcoin.  Watch the site coinwarz.com to see what alt coins stay stable and what you should be mining for. http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency  I'm sure there are others out there too, but I have not searched for them.
