How do the MasterNodes work?

Currently the obsidian qt wallet is able to stake ODN just the same as a masternode would. except that there is no minimum amount of ODN required to stake.

When Masternodes are released the purpose will be to provide decentralized support for Obsidian dapps network resources.

The staking rewards are randomly awarded, but over time the return averages out to 10% or the total supply distributed evenly across the balances of all staking holders.

Like with stratis, each coin can be thought of as a lottery ticket to win the new block for each block added to the chain, and upon acceptance of a new block 20 ODN is paid to the holders address.

Stakers also will receive transaction fees for transactions within each block, as well as service fees for the use of odn dapps such as the upcoming obsidian secure private messenger.

Once masternodes aer released, the masternodes will need to provide enough system resources to the network for supporting odn dapps, but increased network activity will lead to greater transaction and service fees.

As with any decentralized ecosystem, there is likely to be adjustments made to the network to maintain a healthy incentive for the operation of masternodes as the network grows.
This will ultimately involve reducing or eliminating the ability of non masternodes to stake.

Looking for the next 10x Small Cap for Q2 2018? $XBY (dApp Platform, New PoSign Algorithm), $SHIFT (dPoS Decentralized Web 3.0 on IFPS) & $BLOCK (Blockchain Agnostic DeX, atomic swaps)

Currently masternode will require a minimum of 10,000 ODN

I have no idea when masternodes will be released though, and even then, there is a possiblility that people will be able to stake without a masternode perhaps for reduced rewards.

They havent given any date yet, but i believe they wont implement it soon, they are currently working on the ios/android version.

You will always be able to stake, just masternodes will also get tx fees and or maybe a higher % reward annually.

I dont see a reason to prevent people from staking altogether in the short term, but incentive for masternodes is paramount in the long term.
In order to have good decentralized network performance for obsidian dapps like obsidian secure private messenger, you need a healthy incentive to run masternodes on powerful servers.

Yes, tell us more about masternodes. How they work and what are the requirements.
Also, is there a telegram group?

Nice! I like the concept. It looks like you are planning to be able to send many different file types. What will be the file size limit for encrypted messages?

There will ultimately be system requirements to run a masternode. this will be put in place and adjusted entirely depending on the needs of the growing network release for the android and ios messenger apps is scheduled for november-december android first. I think that the team has servers to support usage of the apps in the beginning before the masternodes are released.

Nice! I like the concept. It looks like you are planning to be able to send many different file types. What will be the file size limit for encrypted messages?

The first dapp, secure private messenger will send messages and files encrypted off the chain through the masternodes. messages will require a payment. the initial figure is 0.00002ODN per message. I believe file transfers will require payment proportionate to the filesize. These fees are collected by the operators of masternodes. File transfers are probably not implemented yet, but that is just my guess. one of the features planned for implementation are group chat rooms.

There could be other stuff coming later on like streaming but that would need a robust masternode network.

One thing to point out is that due to blockchain transparency we cant expect for p2p odn payments to be anonymous. solutions can be implemented and alternatively there could be abilities to use other privacy coins through the messenger.

Being a code fork of stratis, blockchain unrelated, it is likely that some of the exciting new features of stratis will be ported over to obsidian as well.
Obsidian is a platform and i am hoping to see more dapps coming to it in the future.

just downloaded the wallet, not able to connect
give it a while, qt wallet likes to take its time. if it doesnt work
try this video tutorial or join the slack from the link above.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVIrlmWFlOE

And btw im not a member of the obsidian team just a holder of odn
