I do not think anyone can destroy bitcoin, because a big country like China itself, which forbids bitcoin, has only a small impact on bitcoin.
For now bitcoin can not be destroyed because bitcoin becomes a very strong crypto currency, unless there is a higher crypto currency competitor than bitcoin that can destroy the popularity of bitcoin.

China's recent stance on bitcoin is a selfish act, they did not ban the coin directly what they did was regulated their citizens on trading the coin outside their country. Implication of this would be Chinese will hold most of the coin in the future since they are still mining and not trading externally.

What can destroy the coin is it's fame vanishing, the coin itself don't have a value unlike fiat they have gold reserves that supports their worth. Bitcoin only depends on the people who thinks that it is worth something that is why trading is getting high. Once people realize that they don't have anything to use it for then price will go down.

You're right about you said about the banks and some powerful nation but some of the banks are now supporting blockchain network and a lot.
