Much respect for people who work oversees. To work away from home is to give up a part of you. You have to change a lot of things from your character, your beliefs, and even your lifestyle just to adapt to your new environment.

Hey guys,I just wanted to share some tips when you are planning to work outside your country or if you wanted to work abroad.
First you need to know things about the country you are planning to go or work.Knowing their cultures and tradition will help you a lot when you are already there.
Second is to know the rules of your target country. Some country especially in middle East have very strict rules and  if you guys come from an open city then u have to adjust a lot in their rules.
Third and most important is be mentally, emotionally and physically prefered.,you will come there to work. You need to sacrifice a lot of things and even your family. As for my experience homesickness is very hard to beat especially when you are used to do things with your love ones like celebrating ocassions. Here you will celebrate those days alone.
So if you guys have other tips on working abroad please comment here and share your thoughts.
I hope this topic can help people who wanted to go to other country for work.I wish you goodluck guys.!

This seems to be true. I’ve worked abroad 2 years ago. The experience was fun don’t get me wrong. However, the culture shock and the different belief are one of the problems. Not to mention missinng your family.

I was abroad for a year a couple years back.

I think the best advice I can offer people is to remain in frequent contact with friends and family back home, but still work to build friends in your new country of temporary residence. I think family is a great support network, which will help you get through the rough patches, and new friends will give you confidence in your ability to survive and find happiness in a new place.

Also, lot's of self-care! I can't stress this enough. Even if you're feeling lousy and lonely, go work out, eat well, do things you enjoy, and rest well. Taking good care of yourself will help you feel better and give you the strength to cope.

working abroad is really difficult ! you will leave your family is a hard thing but living alone missing them is much harder ..
if you have kids, much painful! you will be in a place where you are basically like a transfer student that need to adjust in the community, law and languages. your friends left in your country while you need to have new friend on your new place.

i have no intention of going abroad because it is very difficult from the family.but those who are work in abroad they sacrifice their life for their family and especially they time with family.they need to endure a couple of years just to send big money for their family.

This is a nice thread to read. It supports and at the same time encourages people working outside their country. Working abroad is awesome. But it has it's downsides. Best thing is this. If you're single; you have to ask yourself, can i live on my own for x amount of time? Can the work im getting into sustain me? Can i relate to the country om going to? Can they understand what I'm saying? Or do they understand English? Now if you're married (with or without kids) ask yourself the question if a single person plus, can i live for x amount of time with myself knowing I'm not part with my spouse's and or childrens life.

Yes, it's really a sacrifice. My brother is a seaman and he didn't want to have a communication online like chat or Skype. Only texting is our communication because when we have a communication online, he felt homesick cause he feels he is alone.

And I believe that people who work abroad is one of the strongest people in the world because they can control their emotion just to give a successful life for their family.

I've only worked abroad a week here and there, but if my (extremely large) company would offer me an expat job, I would probably take it. I would get better pay, and with that I would visit my family at least two times a year, and keep in touch with Skype once a week or something like that. Some of my family members, I don't see them more than that, some even less, who are already living in other countries.

I don't have a partner, if I had one, that would be a thing to do together however. I don't believe in long distance relationships at all.

That's great tips,
And i just wanna add one more tip.
You need to make a good relationship beetween your working patner and your neighbor as well.
Because you know that living in other country is not easy when you guys din't have friends.
That's very useful when you want to ask something or when you getting sick,  at leats somone take care kf you and help you kn bad condition.
Leaving family in your country is your choice,
If me myself,  if there are still many jobs in my own country,  i will not go aboard,  i will stay in my home.
Because i can't live faraway from my family,
Even there will be a chance to bring them all to aboard,
I will never stay there forever,  i will be back to my country.
Because I LOVE IT so much.

Working abroad is a big sacrifies,  you will be apart with your love ones. You will be alone working there. But yoi must take all the risk just to earn money for your family for them to have food everyday for them to buy all they want to buy and be able to spend money whenever needed. It is a big sacrifies for you and for your family

Long distance relationships never work, no matter how hard you try. Humans have physical, emotional, and biological requirements, which can never be fulfilled if you are staying thousands of kilometers away from your spouse. I have seen a few such cases where I am living, and that is how I am saying this with such confidence.

Indeed working abroad requires a lot of sacrifices especially with our emotions. if we are not ready with this condition we will surely go home before the time. but by working abroad we will also gain experience and knowledge, and can learn the characteristics of culture from where we work.

I must be a very rare individual, I think of the world as my home. But then again I don't work for anyone; I work from a laptop and have visited and worked on my own time in many countries.

My father is been working abroad for 15 years until now. It is truly indeed a lot of sacrifices not just on the part of my father but for us also. Growing up not having your father besides you is really hard cause there were really thoughts that only your father can give. Of course your mothers love is really a big help in growing up but without the pressence of your father everyday can really makes you weaker.

I don't agree. I used to wark abroad for a long time. And it's cool.
Ofc it depends on perdonality. But for me it always was fantastic: good job, nice people no sacrifice at all.  Smiley

Working abroad does not always give full beneficial returns for each of the Overseas Filipino Workers. Some may be very lucky to have a very kind employer but some may not. Some can get the perfect job that they really wanted, others cannot. Some gets high paying jobs, some do not. Some Overseas Filipino Workers have the opportunity tobring their families with them but some do not.
