I think we should verify this news first, it seems to be a lot like China again. We already know that Russia wanted it's cryptocurrencies to be regulated, and why would they ban Bitcoin in the first place,  they have one of the best mining conditions there is, and not to mention a cheaper price of electricity, I think there is more reason why they will keep Bitcoin and regulate it. We need to clarify this news first, since seems to be looking a lot like what had happened in China,  whenever there is a fork, some media men, tend to scare people and in the end will cause panic.

Here we go again! This time arround it's a bit different if this starts to legitimize we can see both a downtrend mixed with an uptrend regarding the Russia news and Bitcoin HF. Interesting to see how this rolls out. People not getting scared that easy now though, people know sooner or later bitcoin recovers.

I keep my Alt game and don't stress much about bitcoin news. Still holding it though.

again a rumor that is not certain the news is valid. I think bitcoin will survive even though this news is true. there is some different news about russia on bitcoin.

These type rumors are working for some time first China and now Russia even its not recognized by any one but still this is not going to have any impact on bitcoin because now its already going to be more popular in many parts of world
They have tried many times to ban the bitcoin, in my experience the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Russia said the similar word in 2015 and 2015. The russia central bank tried to ban the bitcoin since the bitcoin become a popular cryto in 2013. I remember the russia try to take the straight decision with china about spread the rumour to ban the bitcoin. But that was IMPOSSIBLE for them all because the decentralized of bitcoin still protect us from the greedy person like them all.

I can't say that I'm surprised when I saw this news. But Russia often changes their position about bitcoins and it's interesting, how serious they are now. If they will block btc exchanges - it really means ban of btc vice versa. But maybe, they will change position again and just will start regulate crypto exchanges more strictly. I don't believe that recent news is final decision. Only few months ago Putin talked positive about Ethereum, so, such ban would affect negative this currency in Russian markets. I don't think tha russians want make it. Well, Russia is unpredicatble country, let's wait for more news - winter is coming...

it seems Russia from 2015 has planned this all, but by looking at the article you send it seems not to be long again russia will also follow china. but I do not know exactly what causes this.

It is possible that china is putting pressure on russia to conform to similar guidelines regarding crypto. Hopefully in the long run this will motivate russia to seek ways to become more independent from china & in the future russia won't have to worry as much about being manipulated by outside foreign influence.

What makes things hard are the economic sanctions the united states and UN have placed on russia which makes it more reliant on china and others for trade. That's likely where the leverage for russia seeking to regulate crypto comes from, if the recent news is true.

I feel so sad that all major crypto currency oriented countries is trying to explode the bitcoin bubble. I strongly believe that 6k is the maximum BTC value we can see in this year.

Clear as a crystal, this FUD is a bitcoin price manipulation. They want to it dump so they can buy.
If you know whats happening then take precautions. I will sell at 5850usd.

1. banning an exchange is not banning bitcoin
2. cryptocoinnews is not a reliable source. they are known to write all kinds of weird bullshit and call it "news".
3. this year, reliable sources have been saying Russia is about to legalize bitcoin the same way Japan legalized bitcoin. this is a quote from the head of Russian Central bank actually. they said because bitcoin is traceable we consider it as legal.
4. nobody cares anymore about country ban FUD. Wink

yes agree, some of the news they raised was just speculation.
it would be better if we compare with some possibilities before discussing the speculation news

Russia might be following China and South korea in restricting access to crypto market and the other thing is banning of exchanges or initial coin offerings does not mean banning of cryptocurrencies.

All the governments will try to shut down bitcoin for sure, but russia? seriously? i though that this was one of the countries that most supported bitcoin at all, it is really impresive for me.
I dont think it is real, can anyone confirm it? how do we know if this hasn't been writen by a troll or by a normal user?
please try to give more explanations about it, if it is real, then it would be a mess.

In Russia we keep hearing contradictory statements. It all depends on what mood woke up Putin. I generally don't pay attention to their statements. Russia is a big country in size but the population is small. They can not affect the market of bitcoin. I don't think they're ready now to ban bitcoin. Russia's economy shows steady decline in and so nobody will deprive people of the opportunity to provide for themselves. Why do they need food riots?

Hahaha. Right. Sometimes when Putin was in a good mode, he will preach good words for crypto which he likes. But now it looks like they have put the ban just like their brother China. I also agree that they won't be putting any significant dent as compare to China. Although they are really active but I'm not familiar on their volume trading. But I'm sure this is not yet final as history shows that they have been issuing contradictory state in the past. But lets see. Let wait how things will evolved. Russia investors should be nervous seeing this news though. But we can't blame you. Just be calm and stay relax.

I've seen the news also, The one who wants to ban the crypto in russia is the Central Bank of Russia there only reason for doing so that they have stated is to protect retail everyday investors from bitcoin’s volatility. Well for me that is there front reason but the real reason that i can think of why they are doing this is because they can't gain from Bitcoin.

I agree that Russia is not trying to ban bitcoin per se, but is rather trying to regulate it, just as China is doing. There are potential problems with tax evasion, money laundering, and fraud, though bitcoin is clearly here to stay and is too decentralized to fully control. Russia is just not sure at this point how to handle the problems. Over time cooler heads in Russia will prevail and a middle ground will be found.

Before if I'm not mistaken, it's dated last year there's a news that Russia did banned bitcoin and then removed it later on. I can't remember the source of that rumor but now it's for real so the Central Bank of Russia thinks that bitcoin is a dubious instrument for the retailers. They will say that only this time or this is just another FUD making to make the price of bitcoin lower again so that they can buy some more.

At least I found a sensible reply in this thread. Well, I don't really believe that Russia can stop it's people from using bitcoins especially when everything is turning digital. I really don't know how Putin came up with this decision in a snap but I was hoping that Vitalik can do something about this.

I think it has something to do with the Russian male suspected of the $4B money laundering caught in Greece. But I think Russia will not entirely ban bitcoin and besides it is stated that they are only banning exchanges. They will not do what China did and that I think someone's manipulating things now that we're close to 5K again. Expecting the worst, if they do ban btc I think that people now realized how btc came back from the dip so only the newbies will be shaken by this kind of news.
