And all the "insurable funds" for USD are used up. Is that a first?

Yes, just wish I had BTC lying around that I could convert to USD.

Yeah, I sold coins at gox for 5-6% profit, recently rebought them at 2% profit.  It's been a nice bet  Grin.
Things could get crazy next few days though (for the arbitraging, the lending rates obviously are already crazy at the moment).

Now if only you could leverage on GOX, could short on GOX at the same time you leverage buy on bitfinex, then just cover your short in BTC.  Although I guess you can buy 5% below GOX and get it over to GOX in plenty of time.

aww, looks like most of the fun is over.
By the way, what happens if people lend money for under an hour.  Can they lend interest-free, do they pay for a full hour....?

This has been asked a couple of times and I am pretty sure the answer is they pay for an hour.

0 - 60 min 1 hour
61 - 120 min 2 hour

and so on

People confident that it will bounce back?  Short-term, we are getting quite oversold.

And thanks for the answer superbit.

What was still not answered as far as I remember is if I lend out the same money 3 times in the same hour (for 10 minutes each) do I get 3 times 1 hour interest?

https://www.coinlend.org <-- automated lending at various exchanges.
https://www.bitfinex.com <-- Trade BTC for other currencies and vice versa.

Seems logical to me.  Otherwise, why would 1 buyer not have to pay while the other would have to pay?
+ you could change the amounts and percentage each time, no way to tell which money was lent out before.

I'm surprised GOX isn't at least an option.

If I recall correct, the explanation was that all the USD held by Bitfinex would tend to gravitate towards Mt.Gox, and Bitfinex team wasn't able to come up with a reliable scheme for getting a sufficient amount of this liquidity out of gox and back onto the Bitfinex bank account or into Bitstamp in a timely fashion. Thus the platform's liquidity would be drained away, and trading had to stop eventually. So they preferred to disable the Gox connection altogether.

The difficulty in getting money in and out of Bitfinex makes for a very inflexible supply of US loans.
