Nice the dude who took over 70% of the hashrate is gone!  I have an idea in the future on a cpu coin limiting the max hashrate of the network.  Does a network even really need over say 200khash to work? I think that was a botnet as it was showing around 2000 miners and now it's just 200 so definitely it was botnet

Yup you are to the point. It really feels bad when you have little hash and people come with contract like nicehash and make sure to create hell for small miners.

Now that the botnet is gone I actually mined 3 blocks solo after a dry spell for 3 days. And I will second XMG, it's a great coin that is still going strong with a price around 4000 sats after several years. CPU only, and punishes both high hashrate and large staking amounts.

Thank you both for that info, I didn't know that.  But whatever implementation MAGI uses to achieve that has failed as the network is at 33Mh/s.  So a normal miner wouldn't be able to get anything.  What I'm thinking would put a hard limit on hashes on the network and if the hash goes above that blocks will reward literally nothing.  The only people able to mine for free will be individuals; eventually pools and large scale miners would have to leave because they would be mining and wasting electricity for 0 rewards.  I would set the hash limit so someone mining on a cellphone equivalent processor would get a block once every 2 weeks.  That way everyone would be able to mine without a pool.  In the event of the hashrate going over the limit the people loosing the most money will be people running big rigs and thus they will stop mining the soonest - returing the rate within the limit.

Unfortunately the pools ruined XMG. The block rewards do decrease with high hashrate as you describe, but everyone in the pool is fighting with each other to get the most shares so they mine at a high hashrate. In the end, everyone suffers because block rewards are less, solo mining is impossible, and hashpower is wasted.

It wasn't a botnet and it wasn't 2000 miners, it was 1000 ( they were mine).  The pool just disconnects them so often that it gets the count wrong.  I also crashed the pool frequently with only 1000 machines, which is pretty bad.  If the author wants to make his source public, I'll host an additional pool myself to take load away (I host other pools)

Good idea. I think this coin will have value since it has a new algorithm, limited supply, and no premine. People are looking for good CPU coins to mine with average computers. Probably the price just went down due to people dumping once the difficulty went too high.

Actually according to this, 33MH is within the limit after the first 6mo of the coin.  it looks like the method they are using is working, its just the target hashrate is very high
