Everybody keeps on saying scam scam scam for all of these ICO's. 90% of them are crap, yes. BUT there is the 10% of them, like vector, who are absolutely not scams. They are good projects that will really help the crypto community grow and its not fair to call an ICO a scam until you have actually researched it and you are sure it is a scam.

Just my two satoshis...

Every ico can't be scam simply, but the problam with ico is that they don't provide real products after the contributions of the people. They only sell their ideas to the crowds and that's not enough. Investors want to see more things from them.

As a result, some investors dump their ico tokens.

Better be wary about ICO's, but saying all of them are scam seems a bit of a stretch...

Well even I am seeing many new ICO's are a scam nowadays. Even the reputed ones who had a successful campaign running turned out to be a scam. But let's not ignore the fact that there are legit ICO's who actually are fair enough and can be trusted.

If you just open the altcoins Cryotocurrency section you will see alot of bounties , Ann threads and what not . But it's really hard to find legit ICO's from that hindered topics. That is why most of the ICO's start up signature Campaigns with the help of reputed managers to promote their ICO .
All as in venture investment - one of several hundred projects grows into something worthwhile. And this is with the constant monitoring and hard elimination of unsuccessful projects.

I think there is not too many scammers, but definitely opportunists, and people who want to take their mediocre idea and get yourself a free ride ...
... I have few hundreds usd and want to spend it wisely. I am thinking about buying ETH and leave it. ICOs are too scary for me now.

I do not know if I we could say that 90% of projects out there are scams because thats just to high, and if 10% remained legit it could mean that such projects would be having sale outs but unfortunately the minority do not always raise enough funds as planned, for example, I was looking forward to a project like Bitjob selling out after a 2months long wait to help students get internship while in college but IMO I performed below par.

I think scam is a strong word, ICO's are like penny stocks.. most of them will not amount to much. They are risky investments with huge potential for growth, with that being said many of them will go under. So do your research and bear in mind nothing is a guarantee in the altcoin world. Only invest as much as you are willing to wager!

It's a good way to make money for the company behind the ICO. For an investor it's very difficult, because a lot of people watch ICO and all the sales are done during ICO so nobody buy after that... then the price crash !

The relative ease of access to capital through ICO's and the headlines around massive valuations have created a Gold Rush type of environment. Teams building solutions are not credible and their technical expertise is severely lacking. However, there are a lot of projects in the space that I believe are strong and will stand the test of time.

I think by "scam" many people consider a project that aims to raise millions of dollars, yet it won't successfully deliver the product. And successfully is the key world in that case. I mean, there are many "revolutionary" projects that want to create new decentralized social platform, marketplace, trading bot, file storage and so on. And they will most likely create what they promise. But no one will use it and the tokens will basically become worthless quickly. That may be considered that "scam" part, as apart from delivering the product, they most likely sell their part of tokens quickly, keep large part of the usd/btc/eth donations for themselves and they leave that project for death. That's a scam in my opinion. 5 ICOs creating "new facebook", which no one will use, yet all of them raise at least million of dollars.

Of course, not! There is a number of exciting proposition to invest money in ICOs that can help you to make a profit in the future. Also some crowdsales are organized to support already available product, when team member are ready to develop it and need some money. There is no doubt that such projects are reliable.

There are great count of ICO scams because everyone want to get fast money (project's founder), so they can buy car, house and something else. Without jokes, it's hard to understand which project is real and which is scam.  Undecided

i think that scams are rare in ICO! the big problem is:

1- young and incompetent teams!

2- overvaluated token prices!

No. You really have to do your due diligence and look into the team's experience and find evidence for connections with reputable advisers. I think having a working prototype is also a good sign of credibility.

Quite agree with it. ICO's born with a legit mission, but as they see that won't get there because of those cited facts they just abandon the project

Every ICO is a scam yes. They are created because the supply of Ethereum is unlimited and you can create ERC20 tokens and then launch a coin for your idea. Thing is these coins are purely speculative and have no real use case beyond raising funds for the idea. Once ETH pops, all these other ICOs are going down with it and BTC will still be around as it's sound money.
