I'm open to ideas for a higher rank. I feel like "Legend" is too grandiose a title to give to a living person, though. Any other ideas? I'd probably want to give this highest rank a colored half-coin (like my red half-coin); what color should it be?

how about overlord  or Master or Minister ??

About the color must be different than others , how bout black ? (inspire from black belt  Cool )

Overlord seems a bit ominous  Cheesy. Elite or Noble are good that freedomno1 suggested.

Can someone please explain the perks of being a newbie, junior, member, full member, senior, hero, donator and VIP?

It would be great to have a list of the perks as right now all I see is the sig benefits.

VIPs can change their name themselves.
Both donators and VIPs can visit a special board opening to mods and them only.

Apart from the sig code, different member ranks (different activity levels) have a different posting time limit.

I tend to think that "ledendary" is not too far above "hero" but I also think that "elite" is a pretty good one.  Are there going to be further benefits for the new rank?   If, for example, these guys have even larger sig-spaces then they'll probably be able to earn more on sig-ad campaigns.  Would that be the case?  What other benefits would be offered?

I don't think any benefit is going to be offered its just honour by this forum for them and their hard work for this forum

Interesting.  There was some posting the sig-ad overview thread about this which suggested there might be an impact on sig-ads.  However, if there's no new size/color/etc limits on sigs for the new rank, I think that the sig-ad economy will basically be unaffected.

Why would bigger signatures be allowed just because a higher rank was added? If there were to be changes made because of it, it would much more likely be that the current limitations would be reworked so only the new rank has the full signature currently allocated to hero members, and hero/sr has more restrictions placed on it.

Don't really think that's necessary though, since Hero takes long enough to get, though it is something to think about.

Given Bitcoin has gone up many fold shouldn't new comers pay less than 50 BTC for VIP honors?  I imagine most current VIP's paid at most $5,000 worth of BTC and many paid much less.

I mean, what will happen when we hit $3,000 later this year or $10,000+ next year, will it be seriously expected for newer members to pay out a new Lamborghini Aventador for a VIP logo under their names?

Just something to think about.

Cheers!

-snip-
Q: 50/10 BTC for VIP/donator? Are you all crazy?
A: No, we aren't. Someone who is a donator or a VIP is usually an early adopter and having such a rank means you were either from the start or you contributed a lot in the Bitcoin community. Although, there is a possibility new cheaper ranks will be added.
-snip-

I said a long time ago that the prices would remain the same, so I can't change this policy now in any case.

Quote
Are the new ranks' price going to be variable or adjusted every x days or months depending on BTC price?

Maybe. I haven't thought about it much yet. The forum doesn't need donations, so I'm not going to create another donator level soon.

I think this idea has been passed around long enough.

Let's get real, as long as the dollar is the main currency people will use it to evaluate what they spend.

Why don't you pay 100 Bitcoins for the same work and the same way you paid it out 1-2 years ago?  Oh, because the dollar value is now 1,000 times greater.  If you didn't think in dollar terms you'd give me 10 BTC right now to give you a foot rub.  lol.

And it's not about the site needing the money - it's about fairness.  It's ok to charge new comers more than early adopter but not hundreds or thousands of times more than what was paid as early as last year.

I don't know what the best choice here would be - it's not an easy one, but I do know that expecting anyone to pay that much, given the much higher value, is unfair and I doubt many will pay that amount even if they wanted to.

Cheers!

Nobody is expected to pay anything. And you're right, it wouldn't be fair. It wouldn't be fair to give people the same title as those that donated initially especially when theymos has stated it won't be lowered. If people really want to donate a smaller amount they can go right ahead.

Does anyone know the value per BTC when the last person donated 50BTC?   I am curious to know...I can't imagine anyone donating 50BTC recently...

I would be curious to know as well.  My guess is last year, at maybe $400-$600 per coin.  I can imagine someone [who has a lot of BTC] paying that much for a VIP tag.  Once you approach $1,000+ per BTC the opportunity cost starts to look a bit too painful.  But I would love to know as well.

I think Grandmaster should be the title under Satoshi's screen name...  Elite Member is good like someone else mentioned earlier, but that one is already used on the litecointalk forums

I still think "legendary" (your original idea) is the best so far.   Maybe "Supreme Member"?
