I also predict etherium will go up in 2018.

So its worth investing in both bitcoin and altcoin. altcoin may go down when bitcoin goes up.

safer and more profitable if you have a lot of money is bitcoin, gains are massive in bitcoin because it has a big price than altcoins but if you can't afford to atleast buy more than 2 btc I think you should go for alts which has a lot of chance to pump but more riskier because it has more dump than bitcoin.

As everybody said, Bitcoin is a safer bet for longterm holding. It is THE coin representing the crypto market and which is heavily discussed in the media. Altcoins are great for shortterm trading, but as there is a lot of development and as there are many altcoins with specific use, it is unclear, how long one altcoin will last and if the value will be stable.
If you are planning to hold longer than 3 years, I would go for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is expensive but the positive of good return is high. Altcoin is cheaper but also have the same return. But as long as you earn from the both, then both are good.

They are safe if you know how to take care of them like never exposed you private keys and backup phrases. On being profitable, they are both good in for the long term.

There is no doubt about the fact that bitcoin is and will be profitable. Let us try and understand the reason for it. To begin with we must not forget that the valuation of bitcoin is purely based on demand and supply infrastructure. This means that with the less supply of Bitcoins the more people who invest on it the higher the demand. Accordingly, the higher will be the price. Its popularity would be the main reason for more people to invest. Although you cannot predict the exact trend of the price fluctuations, let us also analyze the two broad spectrums of its functionality in brief:

Short term investment: In the non-constant volatile trend, BTC has associated a lot of profitable markets and infrastructures which promotes the decentralized system of exchange. Along with the growth of this economy it allows a lot of short term investors to follow the logic “Buy the dips, then sell high” and circulate more of bitcoins in the market. This on one hand proves profitable to the investor, on the other hand helps in multiplication of the BTC circulation.

Long term investment: In the new world of digital crypto currency, investors will go for long term for various reasons. First it allows eradication of the middle man globally. This allows you to enjoy 100% whatever you profit. Secondly, the study of the price graph for the last five years shows minimum variance. This benefits most of the long term investors. Finally, with the growth in the technology the more people engage in bitcoin mining, the circulation of bitcoin will multiply and help bitcoin community grow. This has helped a lot of poor investors to become millionaires in a span of 9 years.

Bitcoin will always be a safe option, It's prominent, popular and
highly employed by a variety of establishments and investments.
It's price is high and you can expect to see changes and
movement within a short period of time, profitable and reliably
a good investment option. Altcoins are very promising as well,
2018 i believe is the year of altcoins. Just do a thorough
research on which to invest.  Be mindful both options carry
and involve risk, if possible to have a better view invest on both.
You can balance it out and see how it goes, since both are very
good excellent investments if manage, and invigilated well.
Since it's your money, the decision rest entirely up to you.

Bitcoin is easily your safest bet for a long term investment but altcoins can of course return higher profits if you choose carefully

Simply buy Bitcoin when it dips down very low Smiley

Your other major choice Ethereum is also good long term and it's at a reasonable price still
Both are profitable.  But in bitcoin you can buy for single price.  Unlike altcoins.  But in terms of earning I think its the same.

Hello family, I need to take an informed decision on this issue

With the present challenges with the blockchain technology and its present congestion ,

Is it still safe, wise and as profitable as before to start a fresh bitcoin investment?

I'm thinking that investing in a number of the other several altcoins might be much better

Pls I need your thoughts and opinions on this....thanks

In my opinion it is much safer to invest in bitcoin but it is much profitable to invest in altcoins. Bitcoin is a well established cryptocurrency and is known for its security and its known threats are scams and phishing sites which can be easily prevented through proper knowledge where as compared to altcoins in terms of potential profit, altcoins has a faster growth rate now compared to bitcoins.

Long Term: Bitcoins
Short Term: Altcoins

Bitcoins is the first cryptocurrency, and that makes it the most trusted and used amongst all the other altcoins, so its the most safe to get hold of. However, since the price is so high right now, don't expect it to increase tenfold in the next few years as it would be a little unrealistic, but possible though.

Altcoins, or Initial Coin Offerings (ICO), can have potential if researched upon, which makes it more profitable, however, there are many scamcoins revolving about ICOs and altcoins, making it more risky than having Bitcoin.

It is up to you, but if you are new to BTC, I suggest getting some Bitcoin first. Smiley

I agree with you man. Altcoins are a bit risky if you don't have the knowledge. Bitcoin is the safest way to invest your money.

Experts think  Bitcoin and Altcoin have the opportunity to get the same benefits. The only difference is how we buy and sell the coin. You have to choose the right time in buying and selling coin then you can get a chance to get a profit. All coins have the same chances and the only difference is time. When you determine the right time you can get whatever we want.

Like all the other voters I still prefer Bitcoin, the price of altcoins very much depends on bitcoin, and it's a long-term investment but you can still make a good profit from these altcoins but not in a long term, some altcoins go down the drain, they are good at starting but they cannot keep up.

Both are good investment as long as you're willing to risk. For btc, it is already stable and it's actually a good time to invest since it has a low price for now. Later on, it will just go back to it's own pace, so it will be now or never. Well, for altcoins, less are expected from them, but if you'll be able to choose a good coin, profit will be guaranteed.

It is true that most of the altcoins are interdependent on Bitcoin. If you check the trade volumes, then it can be seen that the fiat vs altcoin volumes are quite low. Almost all the trading involving altcoins is derived from altcoin vs Bitcoin trading. This itself proves that altcoins can't survive without the existence of Bitcoin.

I like bitcoin but, nowadays I would prefer altcoins, not because of I think that bitcoin is dead, but because of the lower price.

Price doesn't have anything to do with a coin. Not even marketcap has to some degree.

But I believe in diversifying ones portfolio throughout different projects.
