you simplified it too much. I agree that if there is nothing solid behind the fork just saying "fork" and that's it, not good enough, it's worth nothing. however speaking of bitcoin atom i am really impressed with the features they offer. when they launch atom swaps the price will skyrocket..

Hope you understand better and it will work for you! I might jump in if it drops lower... but hey, I don't know. I stick to my previous comment for now. See what happens. Good luck to you and all those that are in already. Yes, there are tech stuffs such as Seg and atom swap etc implementation. Who knows? it may turn out to be the winner in the end. But if the project was say led by John McAfee instead of him lending his name for few vodka shots, I would say people would jump all over it. Don't know mate, we'll see soon.

There's a lot of confusing, contradictory and pessimistic/optimistic posts since the fork here. But not a lot of clear information.
Some of us here are new to the board and crypto in general. I just got a wallet and transferred BCT to it last night.
I was told yesterday that if you owned bitcoin, no matter where you have it stored, before the BCA fork, you could at some point once the dust settles, transfer it to a BCA-viable exchange or wallet (sending public and private keys) and receive the equivalent BCA.
Is this true or not? Can we all get on that basic info page 1st, from those who know to those who are noobs, about BCA? Because I don't for sure know what to believe thanks to some alarms being raised here about being cheated, or Atom being a scheme to rob us of keys, etc etc.
Someone earlier also suggested "sweeps" to me. I don't know what that means but want to learn. I have a good feeling about Atom but so far that's all it is, and not enough motivation to turn my private key over to a wallet that isn't even populated yet!
If anybody can point those of us who don't have enough knowledge yet in the right direction so we can learn credible info about how to navigate the fork turf , it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

NEVER EVER send your private key anywhere. Move yout Bitcoins to a new address before you do anything (paid 50cent in fees 2h ago). Wait until Coinomi supports it and sweep the now empty private key which held Bitcoin due the fork. Did that with Bitcore now 20$ per coin

still waiting on the core wallet. be very weary of web wallets that appear to be linked by the team, we all remember the BTG wallet scam that was linked by their own dev team / website. and be weary of the exchanges too. where absolutely possible i always hang on to my priv keys.

Also, once Bitcoin Atom puts out their Atom wallet, wouldn't that be a good way to get the BCA and store it? The exact procedure varies by what wallet you're using. I'll explain briefly using bitcoin core. If you need further clarification, feel free to send me a PM. First, you will ABSOLUTELY want to move your Bitcoins to a new address, maybe even a new wallet! Because if you do this on a site like Coinami (who are honest, but still...), you are exposing your private key to the internet. It could be intercepted, and it could be used to steal your shit if it's still there. I honestly would WAIT. Wait until the core wallet is released. But if you MUST use Coinami, follow their instructions after doing the above and the following. First, export the private keys of every bit of BTC you have in your wallet currently as of the fork block. (actually second, because we assume from here forward that you have sent your BTC to a safe place). You do this in bitcoin core by clicking on "help", then going to the console. In the console, you'll need the address(es) where your btc resided at the time of the fork. For each address enter: dumpprivkey "address" (yes, you want the quotes). Copy the output to a text file. When you save the text file, it's a good idea (not mandatory) to encrypt it. But after you get your BCA, you must NEVER use these addresses and keys again! Now, assuming you wait for the Core wallet, get it synced, then go again to the debug console and for each key issue the following: importprivkey "privatekey" This is the slow, hard way, but it works. It will rescan the blockchain for each key you put in, and the coins will appear in your wallet. Been through this twice. There's and easier couple of ways. Well, less time consuming. But this is the safest. However, if the Dev team has also forked Electrum and has a version of that in play, you can import the keys in a batch (Electrum wallet tells you how), and it will happen much faster. Note that in both cases here, you still control these keys. But I would still send the coin to a new address, cuz why take unnecessary risks? If you do use an online service, ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVELY MOVE THE COINS to a new address, IMMEDIATELY. One Bad Actor and you're out of coins. And as noted above and by others, move your BTC BEFORE doing any of the above. Hope that helps

Yeah. Good advice everyone. I hope this is the real thing and it can change the ecosystem for bitcoin. Let's all be cautious though...you never know. Be safe everyone.

You need to export your private key from your current address 2. Then send btc from current address to another address where your exported private key doesn't apply 3. Import private key to BCA supported wallet, like coinomi. This way even if there is any issue and your private key gets exposed, you will not lose btc as you already moved them to another address with different private key. I hope it helps

Atom seems to be something new and interesting!, but there is no information about the team?, but I still think that this coin will be more successful!
I think it's one more trading derivative for traders until the team would prove and demonstrate the opposite.
