I only have v1.6.0, and it looks like the newest github source (at least from the link in the OP) also carries that version number: https://github.com/starcoinproject/starcoin/blob/master/src/version.h (see DISPLAY_VERSION_MINOR and DISPLAY_VERSION_MAJOR)

The OP also refers to a new Windows client version 1.5...

So where did 1.6 come from (official github), and 1.7 (windows only client?) Huh

I think my 1.6 client is refusing to connect to 1.7 clients. There's some change between 1.6 and 1.7 which means they can no longer communicate.

Is there a newer source code link for this?

Starcoin v1.7.1.0  releases  :

https://github.com/strcoin/starcoin/releases/tag/v1.7.1.0-str

I used the source for Ubuntu 16.04  Wink

Good luck !

Edit : No working nodes, again !   Sad   Cry

Resurrection node:  73.167.128.1

Anyone?    Grin

Connection refused on port 18216

Try an outbound connect to 203.20.114.252

I can provide Ubuntu wallet if you need it, though anyone can obtain it from the source. Also i may upload the blockchain, again, if things are moving on.
Maybe i would try making my 1st blockexplorer if there are nodes !

Does anyone know some working nodes ?

Starcoin v1.7.1.0  releases  :

https://github.com/strcoin/starcoin/releases/tag/v1.7.1.0-str

I used the source for Ubuntu 16.04  Wink

Where did that link come from? It looks like someone else took over?

This seems to be the major change, around 4 years ago:

https://github.com/strcoin/starcoin/commit/be22d2dc17473d478ae4008bb5ca2da14bcc7fc0

Version 1.7.0

After the time-wrap bug hit Starcoin at block 777855 again and finally stoped the network from producing new blocks the following changes to the protocol were implemented:

1) The ActualSpacing is bound by 2 seconds and TargetTimespan, i.e. 15 minutes
2) The PoW/PoS ratio is set to 1:3 (compare to the original one 1:12) to allow more PoW blocks as anyway for the last half of year the PoS was already broken.
3) The block trust scoring algorithm changed to target 3 PoW blocks among past 12 blocks.

A later update also changed the alert and checkpoint server keys, which on its own smells a bit funny, but I guess in context makes sense if someone else has taken on the revival of an abandoned/broken coin.

My source is from January 2014, and I'm stuck at the 777855 death block... guess it's time to upgrade. Wink

I've now upgraded to 1.7 and I'm syncing from a single peer. Quite effortless, I expected I'd have to sync from scratch (I don't have blockchain backups from prior to the death block in 2014!) but 1.7 picked up the fork point and is properly syncing.

Mine didn't take as long, but I only had 800k blocks in my database...  Cool I guess a refresh of the source with leveldb (which has almost zero startup time) is required.

what peers do you have ?

# coin: starcoin
addnode=84.189.5.241
addnode=212.119.171.18

Both these peers are at vastly different heights (2.2M vs 3.9M), so hopefully one is just a bit behind the other.

I think we must remake build for actualize checkpoint.

I've done actualized checkpoints and recompiled my wallet.  Smiley

I sent to "Pull requests"  on GitHub the necessary modifications for updated checkpoints,
maybe someone with granted acces will do those modifications in the source.

later edit :

Also, about the wallet message :
"WARNING: Checkpoint is too old. Wait for block chain to download, or notify developers of the issue."
this worked for me :  https://github.com/PaycoinFoundation/paycoin/commit/350d63f54697d669d43e6fefa26f37326c658bcc

My wallet looks fine now but i don't have access to modify the source on GitHub, so who can maybe will do it  Wink        https://imgur.com/a/1XNbp
Till then everyone can do the modifications and recompile their wallet.
However, i can provide Ubuntu wallet : https://mega.nz/#F!4IAXUBQA!dn4DP55KsQjT5ueNCf9o9g

There is an issue with the staking-mechanism that needs to be addressed.
I have a working copy of the blockchain from 2 May 2017.
A few days after the above date, I did a large transaction to another wallet.
The client went off-line for a while.

When I started it again, it went into staking the entire sum and got stuck.
I also tried to mine again, but the peer on the other side didn't accept my blocks.

Recently I experimented with a truncated version of the chain.
I used one client for mining. Another one was staking for hours.
I made a transaction that included a large amount of newly-mined blocks to a third wallet.
The first time, it worked.

Then I tried this again. The second client suddenly ceased producing POS blocks.
A huge amount of coins disappeared.
checkwallet didn't report any errors.

I then copied a backup of the blockchain as well as the wallet into the StarCoin folder.
The client loaded the blocks, and all the coins were retrieved.
However, there was no staking going on.

The old chain from 2017 now has been mining for two days.
So far, no POS blocks since I do not dare put any old wallets on-line again - just in case.
I believe it once was planned to get rid of staking altogether.

Sorry if I sound negative, but I only try to help.

Observations and theory show that, on average, 28% of the binding-energy in aurophilic interaction can be attributed to relativistic expansion of the gold d-orbitals.

Of course, making transaction, staking or mining without previously completing blockchain syncronization will not work.
New mined blocks were not valid, transactions also rejected.

"checkwallet" is only checking the integrity of the file not the amount in the wallet.

To fix your problems :

-backup your wallet
-download blockchain https://mega.nz/#F!BcYWGIAD!gqtg334lPCN-CHwVDoRsyw  and latest release  https://github.com/strcoin/starcoin/releases/tag/v1.7.1.0-str
-add a copy of your wallet in starcoin folder
-also in starcoin.conf file must add staking=0 if you want to stop staking in order to make transactions with all your coins
-for wallet check, and recover all your valid coins and mined blocks, start with -rescan option
( path/starcoin-qt.exe -rescan ) , it will take awhile but you will obtain the exact and real state of your wallet.
-if you did spread coins in many wallets, do that for each one

Don't do anything (transaction, mining) before completing blockchain syncronization.

Not nice what you have done !   Angry

Warning :

Instead to synchronize/download the right blockchain, someone make nodes with his wrong blockchain :  84.189.0.24:32839 , 84.189.0.24:32886 , 84.189.0.24:32893. Must be banned.

They can't harm the valid blockchain, and no ones wallet will syncronize with that, but it seems they slowdown the network, and users get message : "wallet not syncronized" .

212.119.171.18:18216    is the genuine node for now.

Very funny.  Grin

I have been mining STR (almost) from the beginning.
Better get familiar with the history of this coin.

A few days ago, I have been able to prove the instability of the staking-algo (read my post).
This is also, I believe, what happened to the POS block generation in late 2013. It simply stopped.
Time to abandon staking completely. Just go POW.
BTW, there is no option 'staking=0.'

Observations and theory show that, on average, 28% of the binding-energy in aurophilic interaction can be attributed to relativistic expansion of the gold d-orbitals.
