The momentum point is an interesting one. Everyone seems to be looking for the next Crypto, momentum wise. I wonder when this passes, if at all???

I am somewhat worried about the miners leaving but it depends on if the network can maintain security. I believe they have a check for that, somewhat centralized.
If and when the price of QRK rises a fair bit, the miners will return. We do need some "sales" so to speak for what QRK can do. e.g. payment system.
It will be interesting to see what happens if btc keeps going down, if that continutes, we will see many miners leave as power for many are just too expensive at lower prices.
My guess is that this whole "adjustment"/technical problems is going to continue through this month.
I'm holding and expect the Cryptos to start their ascent up early next month.

Sincerely i'm not worried about that anymore. We already had , I don't know if it's still the same situation , but we had a pool with almost 90% of the mining power . if they didn't bother to play with the coin , (they make 0.5% of what is mined ... not to much ) I think we're below radar for a while

For the second part about btc prices , if (i don't believe it's possible)  btc goes down to 100 , all the alts will be in hibernation (like may-november 2013).

Ps. go to the quark forums and read the plans that were in motion in December , and the promises from the devs , check what has been done...momentum lost...

I've already said, for me, the alternative distribution model is interesting for me. The security aspect is nice but not as big.

The thing that really bother me about quark is that i haven't sold more than 50% of my holdings in December. Is probably one of the only coins I thought it could bounce back even more and make more out of it.
I haven't done the same mistakes with other coins , but I thought at that moment quark may be different. Man , I was wrong!!!

Excluding doge (not released at that moment) , you see that all the top coin are different , bit, lite,peer have some big difference between them. I thought quark is going for the 4th spot with ease. And when I look back , i don't know why i assumed that.

I have a question about scalability. What will happen to the size of blockchain that needs downloading if someone downloads this app for the first time 1 or 2 years from now?   How many days and Gigabytes will it take to download into the mobile phone?  Would it not be possible to make the wallet talk to the cloud based blockchain like qrk.block.io instead?  I'm sure there is the problem of centralisation there, but if scalability is going to be an issue 1 year from now, we need to think ahead.

This is a lite wallet. Therefore it does not download the entire blockchain to the phone.  At any point in time, it stores only 626 KB (perhaps 5000 blocks) of the blockchain on the phone .  That only includes the block headers, not the entire amount of data for those blocks.  The wallet file will store transaction details, if any, for sending and receiving of coins.

Since this is a lite wallet, when the app is syncing the blockchain, it only downloads the block headers and then queries peers for transactions relating to the addresses in the wallet.

Currently, there is a checkpoint system in the app, that allows it to start syncing from last week (february 5th, 2014) for any new user.  Otherwise all users would have to sync from block 1 in the summer of 2013.  That would take many days and kill the battery many times.  It will not take many days to sync, nor many gigabytes.

If a person installs this app 2 years from now, and the checkpoints are updated every month, then the most a person would need to sync would be the last month of block headers.

In programming anything is possible, but I won't be adapting this app to work with a cloud server.  That would be an entirely different project (the blockchain.info online wallet is open source and so are its associated mobile apps for android and iPhone).  The bounty for the Android app is a good amount for developing an android app, but it is far to small too design a secure online wallet service that keeps the hackers and thieves from stealing the coins stored there.  Additionally, my expertise is in adapting bitcoin software to work with other coins.  It is not in servers.

Thinking ahead is good and a secure online wallet for Quark is a great idea.

I thought I made it clear , it's about not losing money , like selling at a possible loss.
While technically it's not a true loss , I don't feel like selling the rest at 1/4 of the price I sold my first batch.

And , hmm , maybe some of the attraction is because I can still put some hope in it going back up , but that is shrinking by the day.
I have a few other coins that i'm still holding a few satoshi worth of them , but in their case I lost hope a long time ago , so I won't even bother bitching about.

So really , no solid reasons to hold them , ((
And admitting to myself and writing it down makes it even more painful.

Hey bud, any chance you could get a graph up on your site that also shows the change in Per Coin prices over specific time periods? I think Doge benefits from newbies seeing that its market cap is almost always going up, even when Per Coin prices drop.
