Now that Quark is on a Chinese exchange, typically what type of price increase can we expect? I have heard everything from 2-3X price.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
YC

Seeing same pattern today as yesterday.  Price steady/slight sell off during the day in America.  Expect to see a price rise during the night as China buys up Quark with a peak in the early morning hours.  We'll see if that pattern holds again tonight.  Resisted impulse to sell at dip below .00012.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Looks like it dropped quite a bit. Still holding for the long term, but would be nice for some steady rise.

Thanks,
YC

I can take a guess and it is bothersome. I am running an AMD FX8350 processor. Not running it real hot yet, maybe at 500khs, as I'm waiting for the CPU cooler to come. (Then it will be at 800)
Anyway, I'm generating about 1 QRK a day, which is around 3 bucks a month in USD and the electricity to generate those coins, here in Germany, is probably 5-10 EUROS. Just an estimate.
I think that is a problem in a few ways:
1 - Those with a free CPU to mine coins might choose one with a better return.
2 - It is expensive no matter how you look at it.

If my math is off correct me. I'm long Quark and a Quark holder but we need a higher price to keep the miners going, at least in some locals.

so what can we do about it?

If people gave up the mining arms race and collectively decided to muzzle their miners back to say 10%cpu utilization instead of 100% then diff would drop and the results would be the same amount of coins and network security but with less electricity wasted.

This is of course will never happen because people can never be nice to one another even if the benefits are obvious.

I was asked about developing a Quark Android Wallet (I have my own service here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=336215).

There was another post here about another coder working on a wallet, though I don't know what kind.  I can port the bitcoin-wallet to scrypt coins at this point.

Quark brings its own challenges because it has six hashing functions:
1. blake - https://code.google.com/p/blake-512-java-implementation/
2. bmw
3. groestl
4. jh
5. keccak (SHA-3) - https://github.com/kocakosm/pitaya/blob/master/src/org/pitaya/security/Keccak.java
6. skein -www.h2database.com/skein/index.html

Some java implementations have been found, though it would be better to have native code for android devices.

This may be of use to anyone who wants to work on this app.  At this point, since I don't have the java code for half the hash functions, further work by me is not possible.

so what can we do about it?

Well, it is mostly going to be driven by economics at this point.
But, there are others who are like me - just mining to support the coin primarily. We will only do that up to a point and I really don't see that "point" coming anytime soon.
So, continue to support the coin, hope for more infrastructure, software, support, etc.

Basically, the price needs to move upwards for the long term health. But we are still early on here, so no worries yet.
A bit more notable support (as with any coin) can really make a difference.

Created a simple image to help business owners understand Quark superior transaction speed and how they can actually make more money supporting Quark. We need to stress about this fact. Every business owner understand "Time is money." If we can get this information into people with influences Quark can do great things.

Also I'm sure someone can create a better image that will be prettier and we can help it go viral to get more people into Quark.

149 activity and you're saying this?
Any network with low hashrate and low difficulty (which is a result of the hashrate) in an insecure one.
And the lower the dif goes the weaker the network is.
