If your friend is suicidal then tell her to call the suicide hotline in her country, and maybe go see a psychiatrist.

You should have to make yourself busy. This can make you help to overcome the depression but the most important thing is that you should not lose the power to pray. Praying to Almighty God is the most powerful weapon against problem. He gives us problem to become stronger in terms of personality and faith. Just keep on going, strive harder and stay POSITIVE.

dealing with depression needs action but sometimes taking action is hard as well, What i can advice is convince her to reach out others so that she can let go of what she feels, sometimes sharing your problem to others can help you breath and help her to realize that she is special and everything will surpass.

To overcome depression? Talk to someone about you problem. Find someone that could understand what you are having now. Take a break, have a vacation.

This is a hard topic.  The spectrum is so wide on what constitutes real depression or someone who is jut looking for attention.  Mental health need a lot more funding that we as tax payers are never willing to pay.

I have had friend on both sides, and let me tell you...the ones that are real, are very hard to convince otherwise.

Depression is a serious but treatable mental disorder. If our loveone is suffering from this we can help them by encouraging them to express their feelings towards us. We must be willing to listen without judging them. But let's not expect that a single conversation to be the end of it. Instead we must express to them our willingness to listen and our concern to them over and over again. We must show them and let them feel that we love them and that we're on their side.

First, try to understand what is the main reason for your depression and try to address it from there. Then find out what things can you do to divert your attention and learn of things that may possibly trigger your depression so you can prevent it.

There's always a reason for being depressed so first figure out what the problem is and then work on fixing it or if that's not possible, alleviating it.

Alleviation pretty much.

Intelligent people are depressed because they typically acknowledge and process the more painful aspects of reality. Sad, or cool, depending on how you see it/feel, but I think it's true.
