The answer is yes and no.

If the $500 you plan on investing is your entire life's savings and it would cause a hardship if you lost it all, then yes it is too risky.

If the $500 won't be missed and if all your bills are paid off and you have a good job then the risk may be worth it.

Risk is commensurate to reward.  Bigger risks mean bigger potential profits or losses.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

During a period last year I was almost all-in in Decred (DCR) prior to the lightning network implementation. I don't regreat, but yes, it is too risky.

I remember Bitcoin was going to the moon and I was stucked in the coin, also dropping in BTC terms - during December and January my position worthed.

Investing is risky. But investing in only one altcoin with all of your money is extremely risky. Better choose two or more alts were you can invest your money. It is just preventing the probability of loss than gain. Splitting your money to other coins is the best option.

The only way you are going to learn is through experience. Yes, this is too risky. Try to have at least two altcoins. I'm sure some of the other members are telling you from experience. Diversify your bonds lol.

It is always risky to keep all your investment in a single coin, you need to divert them and invest them into different altcoin which has the same potential because if one price increases automatically you will make your profit from it.

If you have a large amount of capital I think you should invest in such a type of altcoin will reduce the risk for you. But if less capital, put all on an altcoin. I'm just like you, I just had a little capital and I bought everything into ETH. But I believe they will grow strongly in the future. ETH is the most potent coin I have ever expected.

don't put all the eggs in one basket . even if it is 500 dollars . you can divide your investment into 3 shares . 5:3:2 . you can think about EOS . it will reach a high point in June .

The consensus of this thread is to not put all your money in any single coin. Always have more than one investment to better manage your risk.

there is never 100% for anything, we face a risk every day. I prefer you split 30% - 70% between bitcoin to other bitcoin. ethereum is good, I prefer top 10 altcoins for now. pick altcoin who got a steady rise.

Hi,
the altocoin market is so variuous and there are dozen of interesting projects that can be supported.

But  i'm a little investor (500$) and i'm seriously thinking to put all my money in only 1 project I think is very good which curretly is in the top 40 of altcoins. I don't want to say the name because my topic wants to be very general: what do you think is the risk  by doing so? Should I invest in 2 or 3 coins instead?

Thanks
Of course the step is risky, but the amount I think allows you not to be upset in case of loss. Calmly take a cheaper coin to close though with a quantity, and in the future everything will depend not on you.

If you want to put your money in only one coin. Study first the coin that you want.  If it has the potential to grow in the future and give you a huge profit. If the coin you choose has no potential to grow your money will loss.

If it's a project you really really believe in and will stick with for years, I think there's potential to invest everything into one thing.  However, if you're planning to day trade with it back and forth as prices fluctuate, I'd absolutely go into at least three different things starting with $500.  Diversifying mitigates a lot of the risk associated with trading.  But like I said, holding is just fine too, so long as you actually hold it long term.  Never get emotional with your money, gotta structure your investments in a way that keeps it in check.

indeed if investing money in a bitcoin is a bit risky, so we have to sort out the fear that there is the worst thing that happened to anything else in large numbers.

Just put all 500$ in an exchange that carries a nice variety of tokens ( kucoin or binance  for instance ) and diversify in 3-5 coins. All in on just one coin is asking for trouble.

It's a risky game my friend. The main investing rule - diversify your portfolio.
Your main part of budget invest in top 10 blue chips they will grow in order to cover your losses.
The other part invest in perspective coins on their lows and study these projects their ideas news and development.

In my opinion, this is very risky because you are only fixated on 1 coin only.
And in investing you should use some coins because it will make you get more profit.
If only one, the risk of losing coins is great if you choose the wrong project.

Investing all your money in one coin can give you bigger profit than invest in fews, but it is more risky. Of course if you invest in long term coin the risk decreases but is still.

In my opinion you should find 2-3 coins for you investments, and divide the amount into 2 or 3 parts and invest.
