I find this an absurd opinion, but a very optimistic one. We all know that Bitcoin is the mother of all cryptocurrency and already build up a great reputation. For my personal opinion, it is very hard to replace Bitcoin, the probability is very low. Maybe it can be replaced but needs a  long-term speculation for it.

This simply made a crack of smile in my face. But bitcoin's market cap at $231,944,390,252 is way more big for Ripple's market cap at only $86,941,487,997. In fact, ETH seems to claim it back as it goes for 6.27% for the last 24Hr change of its market cap. No other crypto could ever take bitcoin's place as long as bitcoin is still around. No other crypto does.

I think that in 2018 Ripple will be the preferred coin and will take over as the biggest network by a good margin. Money is already moving away from Bitcoin and people are selling it for XRP and other cryptocoins.

Im glad to see people finally see that the true «shitcoin» is Bitcoin.

It is painfully slow, it takes away peoples money because transactions are very expensive, and it consumes a whole country worth of electricity because it is so inefficient and requires so much computer power just to have it running. In addition its forking left and right because miners cant agree on something and its anarchy there now.

I don't think XRP will replace bitcoins, and ripple price bump will be just temporary and it will crash soon.Ripple is a centralized coin so it will controlled by someone so people have to stay away from XRP.People are investing in ripple for short term and to avoid the high transaction fee and waiting time in bitcoins. But soon the problems in the bitcoin will be resolved and bitcoin will be on track in this new year and it will achieve new prices everyday.SO people just hold your bitcoins tightly for good profits in future.

ripple will never replace bitcoin because there are still many more potent coins than ripples. there is still ethereum and also bitcoincash which is always a rival of bitcoin

So based on coin market cap they have only released about 40% of their total token supply of this centralized token. About 4% of those are still controlled by the founders. It's current market cap is 85B.  So keeping that value the total pool is worth about 210B.

Ripple is pretty much trying to replace the Swift system and SDR (special drawing rights).  Currently SDR is worth a little under 400B.

Let's assume 10% of banks in the world are testing or using Ripple.  If only 10% are using it and the thing it is trying to replace is worth 400B is there really any logical reason it should be valued any higher than it is?

Coins have their own limitation specially Ripple comparing to BTC. We can say Ripple Outdid its self in the market but BTC is still there to compete with it. BTC is declining its value for the meantime, it is for  investors to buy their way for this BTC and make some saving for the time Its value to rise up higher again. Ripple may replace BTC but its not the time yet, BTC still reign supreme and Ripple is to waait for its time in the Cryptocurrenc.

I think it's best to hold both coins! Bitcoin got its correction and will possible to bounce back by this year 2018. It's also a given fact that ripple is also a good altcoin that is good to hodl as it can rise in price by the end of the year.

I don't think ripple will replace bitcoin this 2018, bitcoin has already proven itself to the world and anyone knows of it. Ripple, on the other hand, is just starting but a lot of people are gaining interest to put their bucks to ripple. Another thing to consider is that bitcoin is decentralized while ripple is not. so it will more of the people's discretion if what they want to use in the future. Bitcoin currently has a high transaction fee while ripple will make bankers richer.

If this happens, bankers will win the crypto game, they will dominate again just like what they did in fiat currency.
So if you love cryptocurrency and bitcoin do not support this centralized cryptocurrency,it is clearly being manipulated by these bankers.

I hope XRP overtakes BTC but I think for it to happen in 2018 is a bit far fetched IMHO.
But then again, Adidas passed Nike and all it took was Kayne!

Lets not forget that Ripple went from $8B to $90B in ONE month. Bitcoin sits at $240B and is declining every single day.

I think it will happen very soon. Money is flowing in to Ripple in a extremely fast pace
thats. very calculated and logical. ripple might have the chance to remove bitcoin from the top of coinmarketcap. but some people thought ripple can over the bitcoin price. this is fun to hear.

If Bitcoin will be replaced by Ripple then the crypto community that worked so hard to decentralize money/power have failed.
Look up the subprime crisis of 2008 and Bitcoin came into life in 2009 almost like a response to this incident.

Cryptocurrencies are supposed to be peer-to-peer, trustless and not owned by any government or any institution(s).

I doubt that ripple can overthrow bitcoin in rank 1, the sole propose of cryptocurrency is made to be decentralized, it'll make no sense if cryptocurrency will also be held by banks. Cryptocurrency means freedom not feedom.

I don't think so that ripple will replace bitcoin in costing but in volumes it may be possible. But Bitcoin is the leader of this crypto world and it can't be replaced by anyone. Bitcoin is decentralized while on the other hand ripple is not.  I think peoples take interest in ripple due to it's low cost according to bitcoin or etherium.

IMHO its Absolutely impossible the altcoin will defeated marketcap of btc. If it does than it will take a very2 long time to do that, to many big investor in bitcoin so it is will very hard to take position.
But let see how it goes, somehow crypto world is hard to explain

For now ripples show a lot of progress and values are starting to grow because I think ripples are great for future investments and prices will increase for 2018.

For my personal opinion, it is very hard to replace Bitcoin, the probability is very low. Maybe it can be replaced but needs a  long-term speculation for it.

I also find it absurd, but not really because Bitcoin is the "mother". Yes it is the first mover and has built up a great reputation, but I think it is number one still because it has shown the strength of its principles more than any other alt. Even with all the drama, all the forking, all the socalled civil war, and all the crackdowns, Bitcoin is still there. Like other alts it has the speculators and profit minded traders, but it also has a strong base of users (yes! users!) and this community will be here for years.

Ripple? A long, long way to go, if ever.

I think that is way to far to happen right now. Bitcoin has a big amount of supply circulating in the whole world while ripple is being held by most pioneers that thinks it will be a great competitor against bitcoin. If the circulating supply in the market is insufficient the price will surely go up but the demand will never be satisfied and that will be a big problem.

To be honest, I do think in the short term ripple can be no 1 however that success will be short lived. Private blockchains are not the future. When this tech has been mass adopted, only public blockchains will be no1.
