I think indonesia does not banned bitcoin, it's just prohibiting transactions using bitcoin and not forbid to own or collect bitcoin..
Owning or using bitcoin is the same as banning it. If you own bitcoin and you can not use it, how do you think it should be used at all? the ban is unambiguous.

You have some point too. Well, since no bank or  government can effectively control bitcoin, such opposition is not unexpected. Probably the government will fear of allowing consumers to control their own money at all times.

I see this case is not a ban on criminal sanctions, only Bank Indonesia wants to state that Indonesia does not recognize the payment system with cryptocurrency.
we will see regulations "PBI 18/40 / PBI / 2016 and PBI 19/12 / PBI / 2017" therein only regulates the organizers of payment transactions and the providers of financial technology. if the offense is only imposed administrative sanctions, criminal sanctions can not reach.

Well.. we never know. after all they are still the governments and they have the power to ban or unban but i think it won't last forever they would change how they see the bitcoins,  nothing is permanent. As of now, we live in a world full of  technology, through technology everything is impossible so it's not impossible if our real money would become a digital money right?  Grin

Would be nice if OP provided more than those links, which I'm not clicking on.

I'd be tapdancing in the streets if Indonesia did actually ban btc because they're some of the worst shitposters on bitcointalk, as you can see from the replies here. I'm damn sure my prayers wouldn't be answered so easily.  Can't North Korea drop a dirty nuke on Indonesia or something?  That'd probably work just as well.  I can't stand you fucks.

THis not a bans bitcoin.
They only don't accept cryptocurrency and bitcoin use as legitimate payment solution to again their official Rupia currency.
Same as you can't use USD in Indo or Singapore.
That's normal!

Anyways they have their own government to authorize such thing. As I read one article about it , Bank of Indonesia plans to ban all Bitcoin related activity in the country. While digital technology is of great interest of Indonesian Gov't, it sees that cryptocurrencies is in different light.

Vietnam also gave bitcoin a time but it did not affect the crypto, because simply no or not can not resist this revolution, as the internet also, it keeps growing and now can not lack them. if you want social development.

The translations say "Bank Indonesia affirms that virtual currency including bitcoin is not recognized as a valid payment instrument, so it is prohibited to be used as a means of payment in Indonesia."

now, I don't think the authority totally banned the cryptos, rather the authority doesn't want crypto to be used as transaction methods for now. I hope, authority will rethink about it soon.

Bank Indonesia (BI) stressed that virtual currency including bitcoin is not recognized as a valid payment instrument, so it is prohibited to be used as a means of payment in Indonesia.

What I see is most of this countries coming out to make a statement about banning bitcoin, they are only doing it because they don't have the technological capacity to enforce a regulation and if they go that way it would be too costly on their part so they want to go the cheap way out which is banning. But unfortunately for them, what make them not to enforce a regulation, they can't force a ban as people will.always find a way to ensure that they carry out their business.

Feel so sad to those who are affected by this changes but i think it would not be a big loss for the communuty and surely the government are planning great thing in exchange for that action. I guess government just rely on a bad thing about bitcoins and not seeing those useful effects.

The government states, the ban is in accordance with the provisions in Law no. 7 of 2011 concerning Currencies stating that the currency is money issued by the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and any transactions that have the purpose of payment, or other obligations to be met with money, or other financial transactions conducted in the Territory of NKRI shall use rupiah.

I do not think any country can stop us from using Bitcoin because everything becomes anonymous when it comes to Bitcoin. Besides, if they do, they just forbid us to use it or hoard it and not ban it

It might take a long time but I think governments will eventually realize that it's impossible to try to ban bitcoin. You are just pushing people to do business off the grid, and you are not taxing that amount and losing money. It's not an ideal situation for a government.

I'm so sorry to all who have a bitcoin in indonesia. I feel you brother, it's not easy to accept that they prohibit bitcoin in your own country. I hope they will accept in the near future.
