I don't know why, but Fallout 3 just didn't stick to me. Tried playing it, but the gun combat seemed stiff to me.
I guess it isn't for everyone. But, the combat and the game in general was very buggy and unreliable. Some people argue the story wasn't original enough and too predicable. But, I really enjoyed every aspect about the game. I did predict what was going to happen very early on but I didn't think about it too much and carried on. The multiple choice factor really made it a little bit better because you could replay it and have a different outcome. The combat wasn't very realistic and was very easy to manipulate. But, I still enjoyed it.
Well, I played it and the story seemed fine, just the combat seemed unenjoyable. Not just the mechanics, like gun's damage improving upon leveling up, but the feeling as well. The feeling of blowing someone's limb off, still felt like you were doing it with a BB gun.

I see. Well, considering the game was released in 2008, I think it was definitely one of the best games and more realistic games that were around that time. Thinking back to 2008 I can't remember another game who's combat wasn't bad and felt really awful. Well, I guess that isn't all true, it felt amazing back in 2008 but playing them now is a little bit disappointing because of the games we've played which has new graphics and mechanics.

I thought that was a enjoyable part of the game that the limbs could actually be blown apart, although sometimes a bb gun looked like you took a rocket launcher to the end and a rocket launcher looked like you threw a rock at them.

Regarding the gun combat I agree, however sword combat was pretty good in some games. Actually, I only recently started playing games FPS or any other games with guns. Most of my previous games included swords, magic or anything similiar. So I only played Fallout 3 in 2012 or so.

Could be one of the reasons that you thought the combat was bad. Although, creating a good game which involves sword fighting is a little bit easier has you don't have to consider bullet drop and other aspects. Magic based games I haven't really played. I normally just play a sword fighter instead of getting involved in all the magic stuff.

I played the very old elder scrolls games and their combat just sucked. I mean I don't know why they were so popular.

They were popular for the same reasons they are today, they were the best around and had so much content people spent many hours on then doing different things. Anyway, the game wasn't all about combat it was about the story and the environment, I for one enjoyed exploring the pixel world. Well, to be quite honest when the early elder scroll games were released I was still playing text based games.

One of the reasons?  Not really, I compared to other games I've played with shooting mechanics and it just seemed weak and unrealistic. I guess the blind stat increase in melee/magic/archery RPGs (specifically damage)  through leveling as well as the genericness of all weapons transfered onto the gun mechanics just didn't work for me.

I played Oblivion, Skyrim and tried out Arena and Daggerfall. In my opinion, they're all great. When I'll get the chance I'll probably purchase Morrowind. So I guess our tastes in games differ. Aside from that, the previous poster also mentioned that age rewally changes perspective and our expectations. Actually, for me, Skyrim's combat was a bit hack-n-slashy, although I have a mod to fix that. Besides, roleplaying games are a lot based on the story, enviroment, not only combat.

And man, oh man, the first game's area was so big that the games they're creating now are only separate regions of the main land. Some say it took over a real life day to travel from one side of the map to the other.

I'm more of TES type of fantasy fan and I usually ignore any RPG games made by the japanese due to their style. I also tend to play games that have at least a moderately good first person view, since third person gameplay just doesn't immerse me enough.  Besides, in RPGs im more of a assasin/thief/rogue with a bit of magic mixed in type.

Yeah, Dark Souls is some real shit. Except that PvP became a rolling/backstabbing competition after the first month that it was released.

Finding an honorable opponent was straight up magical though.

The best/worst part about playing videogames online with other people is the other people.

I've never played Dark Souls or even looked at game play so I can't really comment on if it's good or not. Would you recommend it to a elder scroll fan?

I've checked out some videos and reviews. It's really dark (hence the name) and gritty. While TES games are more of the western fanatsy type, which is more appealing to me.

Ah right, I'll have to take a look when I get home to see if it looks like I'll enjoy it. I don't like to comment on games that I haven't played or been seen played.

I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a challenge and a very intense combat game.  Some battles are straight up terrifying.  Very difficult game though and there is no cupcake mode.

If you want to get your feet wet you can can probably pick up Demon's Souls for a few bucks, but Dark Souls was much better in my opinion.  Eager for Dark Souls 2 release in a couple of months.

Anyone played the new dayz standalone? Any feedback?

I heard its a great game, theres many videos on youtube of people playing it.

If I had the money, I would buy it.

I've looked on youtube and it looks all right considering it's in alpha, but I was wondering if any of the users here at the forum had any feedback to give.

Hmm, Yes, I would'nt buy it when its in alpha stage. Not worth the money, am I right?

Thing is as soon as it comes out of alpha/beta stages the price is going to be a lot more.

No its not because it would be foolish of them, plus they wont make sales.

It's normally what happens. It's already being discussed on their main forums with several staff members talking about it. It's not set in stone but, they will definitely make sales if there's enough people enjoying it in alpha/beta stage.

Remember, companies just want more and more money they don't actually care for their customers.
