Dear all,
After I received hundreds of bitcoin and crypto adds on my social media I decided to join the forum to find out more about this blockchain technology. I found this forum huge and have no idea where to start. There is so much to read about. I could use some help to point me to the right direction to catch up with all this stuff here. Any help would be much appreciated.

First of all, Welcome to crypto space. If you are new and want to learn more about the tech and investing advise I suggest the following sites/podcasts

1. Coindesk - It has a vast collection of tutorials and fundamentals on blockchain. It also publishes news articles regarding the market, new tech and ICOs.

2. CoinMastery - This is Youtube channel and normally gives decent advise on investing. The guy is normally bullish on the long term and dishes some good technical analysis on charts.

3. Podcasts - I prefer listening to 11FS - Blockchain insider. I have found them to be pretty unbiased and generally interview VCs, exchanges and founders.

This is a highly volatile market, and one should have the stomach to go through the huge ups and downs. So invest only the amount that you are fine with losing. Most veterans like arsonbunny on reddit have soom good tips and strategy on reddit.

Good luck!!

Hey, go check the 'beginner's and help' section first, there's a lot of great info there. Let me link you to a post I came across just earlier actually, it pretty much includes many of the best and most informative threads across the forum.

Since you are new here, you should first read the most important information about the forum and rules. You can find everything about that in "Meta" section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0

Later you can ask about whatever you want in "Beginners&help" section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0

And the most important read, read, read! Smiley

What a loaded question.

You are in one of the best place to learn BUT note that as much as there are so much good info here....there is so much "noise" or bad info as well that finding the real "golden nuggets of info" becomes difficult.

The basics.
Do not invest more than you can afford to lose.  Not really but a good one anyway.
The higher the risk, the greater the reward.  Very true in crypto but learn to minimize your risks by going with stable/known coins & tokens first.  Take more risks once you have enough knowledge.
DYOR= do your own research.  Do not rely on anyone's advise at face value.  Take it as a guide then research.
FUD= fear, uncertainty and doubt.  This usually creates massive sell off, market crash/dip which most "seasoned" traders see as opportunities.  Take advantage of it and not be a victim.
ATH = all time high.  Highest price the coin/token reached.
FOMO= fear of missing out.  Usually jumping in and investing w/o research...just because so and so mentioned it is the next x1000 coin or because market is buying it like a feeding frenzy by piranhas.  This usually ends up in buying at ATH and followed by a dip/loss.  DYOR.
Buy low, sell high.  The golden mantra...when in doubt, default to this.

If I am new (or my mom asks me where to invest), my suggested portfolio (today) will be comprised of;
BTC,
ETH,
NEO,
ICX,
VEN,
XMR,
ARK,
KNC,
ELF,
QTUM,
WTC

If you can only afford a few coins, go from top to bottom of that list.  Remember, this is a suggestion...use it as a go by or a starting point and DYOR.

There are lots of good info at youtube.  Look for crypto videos and usually, the ones with most followers/views are good indications of good source for advise.

Coindesk, Reddit and Github are good sources of info as well.

Blockfolio is a good cellphone app to track you coins.

BTW, stay safe!  There are many ways to lose money, the fastest is by getting hacked.  Use strong passwords, use 2FA (two factor authentication) AND secure your wallet/exchange keys as well as 2FA keys.  Save them on paper (printed) AND on a thumb drive you can store safely.  NEVER on your computer where it can be accessed easily if you get hacked.  Next to losing it, nothing worse than knowing you have money but you cannot access it.

Good luck!

Great advise! Thanks for taking the time and write me a brief summary.  Especially for the security management you proposed how to protect my assets from hackers.

you should first start analyzing for a certain period of time before you make your own investment, then combine it with your own knowledge and knowledge from your friends and then invest

While I agree with this...I think the market is at the end of it's slump and about to rebound.  At the minimum, I believe buy BTC now and hold/hodl.  Most recent forecasts I've seen say it is about to enter the next massive spike.

No guarantees but buying BTC around $9,800 is an opportunity we shouldn't let go (if possible) IMHO.  As a matter of fact, I just bought this morning. Cheesy

It is difficult to answer your question because you are not telling us what are you trying to accomplish, do you want to just be informed about this new and exciting technology? Do you want to become an investor and make money with cryptocurrencies? Do you want to offer your services in the forum and earn money that way? Are you a developer and want to understand bitcoin more deeply? As you can see there are simply too many angles and it will help us if you told s exactly why you are here.

Welcome.  But the first and the most important, do not Invest any money which should not be lost.

You have play money?
So i think best invest will be ETH.
Also i think BTC will go in March back to 13-14k

Then Elix, also here i see in March potential.
x 2-5 should be possible

Starting guide 101:

  • Create account on different exchanges (KuCoin, Binance, Bittrex, ...)
  • Create Twitter and follow people, coins and exchanges (so you get relevant information on potentially nice coins)
  • Research coins you like. What do they provide, how do they work.
  • Invest money, you won't be particularly sad if you lose.

Learn top 10-20 coins on coinmarketcap, add it to bookmarks. You will need it often if you want to find any valuable coin fast
Go to every coin's site from top 20 and learn what they are about
Register on some major coin exchanges
Learn what people write on this forum about coins you are interested in
Find some telegram groups, doesn't matter it's pump or dump or some useful ones, learn how they work
Find popular crypto writers on twitter and learn what they are writing about.

Another neophyte. Just be careful in trusting anyone offering you trades and such and such as it will lead you to being broke. If you can see there are people who are trusted here and if you want to buy some coins you want to hold then you could go to exchanges sites.

And kindly visit the mods thread for you to read and find more knowledge as they are much to be trusted than any one in this forum, you can click THIS so it may lead you to salvation. You have also beginners help in your sub-forum if you have lack of understanding in English language discussions (If you are an American disregard that). Good luck and have fun in learning about the crypt society Cheesy.

If you download the cryptocurrency application in my signature you will have a "all in one" hub for information. A built in chat, news section, education, and coin portfolio. You can look up any coin or stock and find specific news on it. PM me if you have questions or need help. You can also look through my threads, I have a lot of helpful educational threads.

since in this market it is better to call in as early as possible, I would buy coins from the top 10 for long. better slower but more confident. and at this time would study fresh startups

Welcome to crypto world. Before anything else study first all of the rules and regulation here in this forum it is posted and pinned on top of a certain board when you try to visit. You can learn alot from here lots of new threads posted every now and then it is very helpful and beneficial for you to read those. But don't rush yourself into investing try to study first everything and eventually you'll be able to understand it.

First of all, you need to read rules and regulations of posting here. I think you would get tons of knowledge by reading alternate cryptocurrencies threads. You can also post there.
