Government can not kill the cryptocurrencies not matter how much they try. Though they can moderate, ban or legalize but cant kill. Cryptocurrencies are made on the blockchain technology which is decentralized, secured and immutable. No one can do any alterations or destroy. There is no server, which government can destroy. There are smart contracts behind every cryptocurrencies which are automated and no one can do any changes once it is created. So that is the beauty of the cryptocurrencies that no one can kill it.

The simple answer is they can't kill it, no matter how hard they try. The US government has changed tactics completely and decided to tax trading activities to make money from it. Forget banning and look at stricter regulations and reporting for tax purposes as their way forward.

Governments cant kill drugs which have physical form for centuries. So they won't be able to kill cryptos, but they sure can criminalize them. Stupid enough to be implemented by govts.
Agree to this, they should first kill those people who commits crimes like in illegal drugs. They should take action first on those people who are corrupt specially those people who are in the government. They should take down those people first.

The same tax, a restriction on the withdrawal or something more interesting. There are a lot of ways to crush users, it's another matter whether rules are made for users or against.

A very interesting article indeed! As per my perspective, the government are not capable of eliminating cryptocurrencies. However, they can only put some regulations to it as they run under a decentralized platform which holds no liability at anyone. There are also amazing benefits when a company is implemented under the Blockchain investmentwise. For now, they may debate about it but eventually they will be for it especially if cryptomarket becomes stable.

I have read many articles about destruction of bitcoin by the government and it all says that there are many attempts but still can't do it, as we know the fact that it has no central control and the transaction is by peer to peer network. How can they kill a system that is design like a public ledger? maybe they need to shutdown the entire internet network but that is not possible on the world today. What they can do is only to destroy the image of bitcoin and make some laws that engaging bitcoin is criminality. But what comes up to my mind is that bitcoin is giving more advantages for most people of the world rather than the disadvantage to the government.

I think world government can kill crypto, but they will not do this.
How they can kill cryptocurrencies? By banning? You know that cryptocurrencies are anonymous and if they will start to ban all of it there are people who will remain silent but will still continue to support crypto's. Actually, there are countries that are already starting to do it but we can't notice it because we are not living on that country. They can't kill the crypto currencies but they can make the crypto currencies to lose its value by banning then and shutting dowwn the exchange and restricting their circulations.Yes actually many countries started to ban bitcoins so the price falling too hars so imagine if all the countries banned bitcoins then the price will be too low. ![Huh](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/huh.gif)

Thanks i dont think that world government can kill crypto, then can manipulate it but i dont think that they can kill it. why? because even those who called “government” are studying about crypto, they are also using it to earn big money thays why they are manipulating it. government only making noises because of one simple reason, and thats money..everyone's opposing bitcoin only aiming for money, because crypto CURRENCIES is money itself just only in electronic form..i guess the best way to handle this case is to STOP LISTENING to all negati news about this community.from that we can prevent to panic or worried about our portfolios

Most of the crypto currencies including bitcoin are decentralized. This means the government has no control over bitcoin and other decentralized crypto currencies. Now how can someone destroy/kill something which they have no control over at all? All they can do is add regulation but not kill it.

Firstly, Crypto networks work as an independent environment that doesn't need anyone the directly control it. So we can understand basically, no one control the networks, no one shut down the networks. Crypto will continue to exist even if everyone gives up using them, they will still exist somewhere on the Internet ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

They can regulate it but they won't be able to kill or destroy the trust of the users of cryptocurrency. I think they are just afraid because they cant regulate the assets and the people who start using the cryptocurrency.

There seems to be no denying that governments can ban cryptocurrencies. Bolivia, Ecuador, Kyrgyzstan, and Bangladesh have already done so. Russia issued a draft bill to ban cryptocurrencies in October 2014 and recent rumors suggest it might follow through., it has prompted some to consider whether a government might ban cryptocurrencies like bitcoin — and, perhaps more importantly, whether such a ban would be effective.

Even if the country bans it they cant do anything to people who can still or able to do trading they can just move to another country that are cryptocurrency user-friendly.

It's not that they can or can not. It's more of if they will or they won't. Actually they won't kill crypto it's the other way around they want crypto to live. Because their objective is not to shutdown cypto but to take control of it. Government hate things beyond their control ,so for as long as they have control over it and as long as the government benefit from it they will like it or love it rather.

Imo - of course they can! BUT! you shold understand that they can kill crypto in different meaning of these words. They can kill crypto for speculators. But they cant kill crypto as technology. Crypto will be killed only in one case - if the whole world will lost the internet. Till this moment crypto is in our arms. Nobody cant control real crypto, but can use it

Every government doesn't have the intention to kill cryptocurrency, because some countries like Japan has already made their entry and has started benefiting out of the same. In this manner some countries will try to regulate, but very few has plans of a ban without realizing the true value of bitcoin.

Big governments and central banks are waiting, confining their intervention to regulating criptocurrency rather than restricting the use of cryptocurrencies as money.

Cryptocurrencies will begin breaking the monopolies of governments to collect seigniorage income—the acquisition of commodities and assets by printing money.
