The last news I gather is that Mt. Gox is dumping their bitcoin and bicoin cash in trading platforms. Since all altcoin rely on bitcoin, alcoin will also affected in bitcoin fall. Even whales are also contribute on ots fall if they sell it to fiat.

Yes, it is a great time to buy bitcoin as well as other altcoins. According to me, the altcoins are always down at this period of time because where the year ends, people usually sell their holdings to cash out some yearly profits, which causes crash in January and February and the rest just panic sell which cause more dips.

For the market to gain momentum for bullish trend again, it takes a bit time for recovery and hence first 4-6 months at the start of the year are low for altcoins and bitcoins. In these dips and pumps, major role is played by the whales that sell in bulk in early part of year and then reinvest in the later half.
