It always amazes me that people think this coin will actually succeed... People can't even figure out how to say the name lol. Not to mention the faulty distribution model, and resultant declining network security.
Doge was a joke guys... It'll be over this year.

I would see the same liability with "Dogecoin" as well. The entire situation leads to questionable results, and neither of the names are really that "good" for this purpose.

As long as it has a community to back it, it will always have a market. If people give up on it, it'll die. If they keep pushing it, it's showing that a social experiment can be successful, :p.

You need more then a community to sustain a proof-of-work-based crypto currency. You need a strong network hashrate. Otherwise it doesn't matter how much community you have, the coin will get attacked, forked, and essentially destroyed. This is Doge's most likely future, and it was a destiny from the start due to a horribly considered distribution model. Again, Doge was and is a joke. yeah yeah, see you in a year ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Probably. But I doubt it'll be in any thread about DogeCoin. See you in another halving or two...

With ASICs out now and being sold, I'm positive people are buying them and will jump on the Dogetrain. Is it possible that Doge will die? Sure. I just don't think so at this point.

"The joke" is so happy and funny that millions of NASCAR fans now know about DOGEcoin (through repeated exposure) and many of them had barely ever heard of BTC, if at all. It would seem extremely unlikely that DOGE will die off any time soon.

Check the reddit , it has almost reached the size of r/bitcoin in less than 6 months. It might be a joke but the rate the community has grown over time is insane. And those people are not only fan of doge , they are fans of cryptos. There are tons of coins out there already, and not enough investments. This is why the coin is going down in value. Halving the block reward doesn't magically make people start throwing money at the coin; it just enhances the effect of money that IS invested. But to get there, we need more money flowing in.

I agree, and it adds an often overlooked problem: uselessly increasing the size of the blockchain. It is already relatively big for a 5 months old coin, let's not make that problem worse. The Dogecoin Fundation proposed a new algorithm: Proof-of-Fun! http://www.reddit.com/r/DogecoinFundation/comments/26a4ht/proposing_pof_proof_of_fun/

I am the developer of Earthazaar.com a new web store. Unlike most web stores this store only accepts cryptos, no fiat allowed. The site originally only accepted one crypto coin, but I have recently started accepting Dogecoin for payments. A web store accepting cryptos is definitely nothing new but my site does something most crypto accepting stores do not. My site lets members start their own store with public auctions. The backend is feature rich enough that members can set up a true online retail store with shipping, product variations, services offered, etc., or members can simply post an auction item similar to what you could do on ebay. I actually have a lot of hits on the site, and make quite a few sales, but I am having a problem: I don't have enough people selling goods and services and I lose a lot of potential sales because of this. To make matters worse my vendor with the largest inventory on the site just decided to get out of crypto and pulled his whole catalog of products.... If you would like to join and sell items for crypto here is the link: https://earthazaar.com. You can find the link to become a vendor in the footer.

Anyone else having wallet issues? I keep getting database errors etc. Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, upgrading but still nothing. I am able to access it for a few short moments after restarting the wallet but it usually crashes within 5 minutes. I took a couple screenshots of the errors earlier and will post those when possible.
Running Windows 7 x64
Thanks!
edit: just crashed again with 16 weeks left on the block index rebuild.

It might be a joke but the rate the community has grown over time is insane. And those people are not only fan of doge , they are fans of cryptos.
Unlike other coins , doge is bringing in people that had no clue about coins , the other are attracting people who already experienced bitcoin.
This is the key that many people seem to miss. Yes, Doge has done a fantastic job being people into the crypto community at large. But it is a gateway crypto. Most people will move onto Bitcoin if they are looking for a store of value, or something like Litecoin if they are looking for an investment. Doge is a humorous way to introduce people to crypto - most won't stay.

The fun community, in which there are many projects that are easy to contribute too, and its growing popularity as a tipping currency (microtransactions will change the online economy, really) are perfectly good reasons to stay with Dogecoin.

Absolutely. When I made that comment, I was hinting that halvings will likely see further decreases in price, because more miners will leave and the network security will drop significantly. Why would anyone put money into Doge? Isn't it a joke? very currency many coin!

It's users have a sense of humour, is that why you say the coin is a joke? That sense of humour and its many uses as something other than a short-term investment are precisely the reasons that people will put money in it; because it doesn't give the impression of being nothing more than a ponzy scheme like most other coins often seem to be. And many people want to invest in something that is used to do good, and Dogecoin has a great track record with the charities.
