so it seems that doesn't work for you...sry... but since you need the stratum mining proxy anyway maybe it's possible to setup a failover there....

Now, at risk of sounding dumb... how do I get myself a wallet address for a coin with no compiled client? I don't mind if the answer is "acquire python" I'm just really not in the know. I also dont understand if a wallet address on its own would stay valid after fixing and restarting the coin. Could potentially connect to your pool to test it out.

First, you have to look for PUBKEY_ADDRESS and PRIVKEY_ADDRESS, usually you can find them in base58.h

If PRIVKEY_ADDRESS is PUBKEY_ADDRESS+128, 128, you can just use vanitygen as specified at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Vanitygen
If it's not, you'll probably have to patch vanitygen. It's hardcoded somewhere if I remember it right.
