The issue is that $DIR_PATH is not defined. velvethammer2 , I assume you were following the instructions on the DM support web site? I think that the $DIR_PATH in those instructions are a typo.

CruzCoins' instructions on this thread are correct though.

Also, you could consider dropping the –prefix option altogether if you want to install the cgminer in the default location (which is what I did; you can see my post on the subject if you're interested).

How do we turn off dual mode ( i am seeing 2 lights on them when they are mining)

You turn off dual mode by switching the dip switch to L on the unit.
In the param box of the GUI you can add this line.

Or directly into your cgminer bat file.

I understand what you are saying on the lights.
The code I gave you should do the trick for your O/C though using cgminer on the pi.

In the last few days, I see sporadic failures where one or more DM 2s get disabled. I saw three disabled yesterday. The latest one just got disabled this morning:

I'm running the DM cgminer under Raspberry Pi on Orico hubs, with no more than 9 per hub. The rack is in a server closet that's kept cool. I have two USB fans (connected to a separate hub that's not connected to the Raspberry Pi) to move air through the units.

Any ideas as to how I can diagnose and fix this? Maybe there's an update to the cgminer software?

Once this happens, is there anything that I can do other than just rebooting? When I just bounce cgminer, the DMs don't necessarily come back. In fact, I just bounced cgminer and lost 6 devices.

When I woke up this morning, I found that three more DM 2s had failed. Here's the log entries (including the discovery of the USB devices, in case that helps):

Basically device 26 and 28 have fallen over. I'm not entirely sure how to correlate the devices that have been disabled to the physical units. However it sure seems like the failed devices are always on the same hub, and with high dev numbers.

Another oddity is how the DMs are assigned in the tree above. My physical layout is such that there's one "master" that's hooked to the Pi. The other two hubs are hooked to the master. I've got 2 DMs in the master, and 9 on each sub-hub.

So why is it that some of the DM devices (which I think are identified by "Class=vend., Driver=usbfs") appear directly on a sub-hub, and some appear to be in a hub within the hub?

Maybe the ports on the Orico hub are all the same? Some are sub-divided internally, apparently. Not sure if that's relevant or not.

I'm starting to think that maybe I should pull a DM or two from each sub-hub and plug them into the main one. But I'm just guessing here.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

    As we know, USB is a very tricky interface and has painful compatibility issues lack of unified solution and theory explanation. If we are so luck to find out a stable topology with specified hub assembly, we appreciate the hard work of test engineers and patient costumers.
    How to explain it in theory is a question which we could think while we watching it running stably.
    Looking forward your feedback.

One LED for LTC_Busy. The another one for Dev_Detect not for BTC status.
So two light is ok for LTC Only mining.

Thanks dmsp. After reconfiguring my DMs across the hubs, my rig has been stable for 48 hours. I'm happy.

Just to be clear to everyone, if you fill an Orico hub with 9 DMs, it is critical that you leave the correct port depopulated, as per CruzCoins' and dmsp's diagrams. If you depopulate the wrong port (which I did) you will see stability problems.

As you may know, our DualMiner USB 2 (DM2) has a price promation on volume purchase this month. When you purchase 50+ DM2 devices, you pay $61.2 for each DM2 device. I did a quick cost/reward comparision between the DM2 and one GPU (Radeon HD7970) system, and reached a conclusion that the DM2 is alreay neck to neck with Radeon HD7970 when comparing cost/reward matrix. Below is my detail analysis;

Assumptions:
Difficulty is steady

Given Conditions:
Host required to mine is not included in this comparision
External cooling is not included in this comparision
$/LTC convertion rate = $16.94
Electricity cost (KW/Hour) = $0.15
Pool Fee = 2%
Duration for comparision = 375 days
Radeon HD7970 parameters; cost=$310, Hash Rate=700KH/s, Power comsumption=250W
10 DM2 parameters; cost=$612, Hash Rate=700KH/s, Power comsumption=15W
LTC reward calculator used in this analysis; https://bitcoinwisdom.com/litecoin/calculator

Calculations:
GPU extra electricity fee (/day) = ((250W-15W)*24/1000)*0.15=$0.846/day
GPU extra electricity fee (375 days) = $0.846*375=$317.25
10 DM2 $ reward from 375 days' mining = $743.9 (using calculator https://bitcoinwisdom.com/litecoin/calculator)

GPU net reward (at the 375th day) = $743.9-$310-$317.25=$116.65
DM2 net reward (at the 375th day) = $743.9-$612=$131.9

Takeaway point: With the per device price of $61.2, the DM2 should give you better long term ROI compared to Radeon HD7970.

As per the above, you only get that price per 10 if you buy 50 (or more).

You'd have to compare 50x DM2 vs 5x HD7970.  The theoretical parity period is the same, but the initial investment (for either option) a fair bit higher.
I.e.
1. your comparison (note that I don't have all the variables you used, so give or take..) - investment: $612 - parity in 357 days
2. actual comparison to get that price - investment: $3,060 - parity in 357 days
3. if you truly bought only 10 ($70.20/each, per website) to match a single HD7970 - investment: $702 - parity in 464 days

Of course one might be able to get a better deal on 5x HD7970, the resale value of graphics cards after a year is probably better, the static values are unlikely to remain static, etc.
