I was skeptic myself when i didnt get a reply from email support in 8 hours. Then i realize he was just a one man company and doing his best what he can. When the site was down for withdraws he offer me if its urgent he could get the bitcoins from the cold storage but rather not and want to get some sleep. Yes Sleep!!! the man probaly dont take a day off and is working his ass off to get the site running as smooth as it can.
So people, give the man a litle break when there will be issues during this time. Companies always strugle ups and down at the begin of the start up. When it does go smooth in the future we all will laugh back about this.
I think poloniex could be very big and favorite site for some in the future. And i hope he does get reward when it goes well.
Peace!
I agree that Busconi is doing an incredible job and has proven to be a very stand up guy. However, this does seem to be a crucial tipping point of increased traffic that will not allow the site to continue flourishing without hiring staff and upgrading severs. Any available capital re-invested would surely pay back in time. I would hate to see a loss of momentum to the other upstarts. I am growing comfortable with Poloniex.

Hi busoni,
Thx for adding the 30min and 2hr periods to your chart. It makes it a little easier to watch your coins but its still difficult if you want to track them more then 4 days. Any periods that make it possible to track you coin back to the first available data would be much appreciated (with reasonable periods pls, not like cryptocoincharts does with its massive candles as soon as you click on anything above 10 days range).
Thx
I brought this up already, I think it is a big attraction of Cryptsy, but I honestly would love to never have to depend on Cryptsy again. Busconi, please let us know if you will consider implementing this. (I realize it may not be priority number 1)

Only if no change will be sent back to you, if a exchange or pool tries to send to your exchange wallet the overpayment fees ect it will fail. You will lose the coins of the balance if due. I send from coinbase btc I buy with usd to poloniex no issues. It is a 1 way transfer

He was so active in the trollbox today taking suggestions and implementing them, by now he must have crashed And of course the site will go down as soon as it feels no one is watching, it is the way of these server beasts. They need 24/7 support, cause the lousy new software is very buggy. W2k never wentdown

Yes, it seems so. @busoni: I think it's a very bad feature to force users to log in just to see the market. Pointless, in fact. I often watch Poloniex to keep an eye on markets. Forcing users to log in as a method to prevent DDOS attacks is esentially stripping the exchange of a feature in order to prevent a problem that should be fixed without inconveniencing users. I just hope for Poloniex's sake it is a temporary measure.

Put simply if there is ever a transaction where coins are set back you would lose them. should be OK for a direct transaction. You cannot use exchange wallets the same as a regular wallet.

Hi everyone,
First of all, about recent load issues. I designed the software with expandability and potential for load balancing in mind--it is not hard to spread the database across multiple servers. I didn't expect to have to do it so soon, though, and I expected a little more warning--Poloniex is growing at an insane rate. That's why there have been these periods where things get overwhelmed. Everything looks fine, then all of a sudden there is a sustained 3x boost in traffic.
I'm going to be adding more servers this week, and I will try to keep a much larger margin to allow for sudden massive increases in activity.
The forced login to view the exchange page was a temporary measure to control the load. Things are now back to the way they were.
One more thing--about security. Very few Poloniex accounts have been hacked--less than five, I think--but I still think reminders like this don't hurt. I know long, random passwords are inconvenient. I know 2FA is inconvenient. But you really have to take the things that everyone says about basic security seriously. NEVER use the same password on an exchange that you use ANYWHERE else, especially on a smaller, unproven exchange. Use a password generator to get a 40+ character random password, then log in with a password manager like 1password. (And back up your keychain!)
But that isn't all. Remember that no matter how strong your password is, anyone who hacks your email account can change it--UNLESS YOU USE 2FA.
This is money we're talking about, which means people will always be trying to steal it. Unless you know you can afford to lose what you have on account, use a strong password and 2FA!

Hi busoni,
Thx for adding the 30min and 2hr periods to your chart. It makes it a little easier to watch your coins but its still difficult if you want to track them more then 4 days. So what are you looking for, a candlestick chart that goes back to the beginning of a coin's history, or a way to track your own personal trades? It would be kind of cool to have little annotations on the candlestick indicating where you bought and sold...

It would be kind of cool to have little annotations on the candlestick indicating where you bought and sold... I would love to have a chart that goes back a little longer as well. It is a better way to spot trends in coins than just a 4-day chart. Charts going back 1 and 3 months would be a really nice addition to start with. Having a 'all data' graph would be great, but I have seen on other sites this can become quite slow. So maybe an all data graph that only loads like 1 datapoint per day or so? But that would probably cost you a lot of programming time

In response, the Altcoin community banded together to deliver on the promises of Stackcoin.
