I read that they are investigating criminal price manipulations over Bitcoin. Manipulation of prices is really possible ? This happened before ?

Even in forex manipulation already did happen. If a bunch of whales grouping up together and arriving at a common consensus that they'll gonna pump and dump btc or even altcoins in the market then it would really affect the value of crypto. This is an illegal movement since there are lots of players and investors in the crypto market.

I've once joined a discord group few months back where in the members are told to pump and dump at a certain time and it really did well for all of us who executes fast at a given time. So manipulation of prices in the market is really possible but could destroy the image of the market itself as well as pester those small fishes in the market.

Manipulation can be done:

- group of whales
- just few people (see the Korea guy in January) giving wrong/false information or hype the coin


Both are illegal, so it is good if someone is doing investigations.

The high volatility we experience with bitcoin is the result of price manipulation, most of the times. Whales and pump and dump groups make it a habit to pump up the PRI e and dump massively. This high volatility is one of the advantages that traders make use of and make their profits with. But that is also the reason why it's hard to use Bitcoin as currency.

It exists since the beginning and it's not only on Bitcoin but also from other coins as well, all coins have their own whales, where they can manipulate the price for profit, they are individuals or sometimes group who pool their money to manipulate coins that they are holding.

There have been reported accidents that companies manipulate the price of bitcoin or any other coins that they are trading, it is 100% possible and it has happened before. They always do this so that they can make more money, especially they can make more future with high fees which they manipulate.

I think that the guys called the Whales are surely manipulating the bitcoin price as they want to buy it or want to sell it away.

I think it's hard for bitcoin to be manipulated, if the bitcoin price is up and down, it is normal ..

It's happening and not only in crypto market. In normal economy, there are people who are abusing the law of supply and demand. Hoarding goods, during the time of crisis that makes the price higher.
And likewise in crypto market, they are doing something to push the price back to a lower one which can only be done by manipulators, whales.

However, I don't think that its the main reason why the market is really going down. If might be one of the many reasons, but overtime when the market bounce back again, I don't think that manipulators can control the market with many getting on board, it will be difficult for them.

Manipulation happened to a very high extent when Chinese dominated the market and they just easily pumped and dumped bitcoin and the whole world followed it.

Well a lot of reason why the market is falling down and sometimes we cannot control the other reason for it, so for me we just need to stay calm when market is falling down, and we just need to spread this opportunity to all people so the demand will continue to increase.

what do you mean criminal price manipulating ? The one who can manipulate price of bitcoin are the whales.
for example if i have many bitcoins on my wallet, i can dump my coin at anytime and damaging the price in the market.

Yes, manipulation is possible and that is what is currently happen by big players.

What is the purpose of current manipulation then? If manipulators want to make it cheap so to buy more, and then start a bull run, I'm totally OK with it))

Since it is theoretically possible - I do believe, that price manipulation is happening in a larger or smaller scale. But I think, there are some circumstances that have to be naturally to be present for the manipulation to have maximum effect.
