Again monitoring and simply locking dead giveaways would be better solution to this problem that straight up banning them all
The problem is spam, not giveaways that don't pay out.

So how would I give out or announce bounty and airdrops then?
Without forcing or rewarding people to post in your thread.

(Off-topic:)
Because some moron(s) stole the money that was supposed to fund the new version of Bitcointalk.
We're talking about at least $1,000,000 worth of Bitcoin back when that money was donated, so after deflation one could assume that this number might easily be 10x higher by now.
Worst thing is, time i checked, no one was ever held accountable for that theft, and Bitcointalk still looks like it was stuck in 2008.
Don't get me wrong, i'm a nostalgic, i like SMF/PHP boards, but a lot of money was definitely stolen from this community, this is not Ok and something should be done about it.

what about airdrops,those are good
Airdrops are good. But they are just a new disguise for giveaways.
The popularity of airdrops has attracted quite some scam coins popping up with promise of airdrop and prices "reaching the moon".
If you have been following some of the latest airdrops, most of the threads are being deleted by moderators. At times it looks like the whole idea of airdrop is out of control. We could see as many as 2-3 new airdrops everyday, which asks for strict moderation.

Airdrop is a freebie - you're right. That's what airdrops are for. Don't see anything wrong with those. A freebie is a freebie. And for developers, it's a way to popularize their coin and propagate new nodes.

Just different words for the same. A lot of times they're used interchangeably.

Giveaways still are a major drive for people coming here, I am new here but it seems the community is
pretty friendly here and all my friends just signed up because they are interested in mining and airdrops.

I am wondering why such a well known bitcoin forum doesn't have a better UI though.

Cheers.

Because some moron(s) stole the money that was supposed to fund the new version of Bitcointalk.

I remember very clearly back in 2014 ( even though i forgot which thread i read that in ) that a lot of money was donated for the very purpose of improving Bitcointalk UI/UX.

Edit there seems to be a beta version of Bitcointalk 2.0 but it is terrible and looks like garbage so i assume this must be some kind of joke https://beta.bitcointalk.org

Ps : Banning giveaway thread is a moronic decision and i'll be vocal about it until the day i die, so please create a subforum for these otherwise i'll have to take this matter into my own hands.

I think the forum would have been more vocal if over $1mil in funds was stolen from them. I highly doubt that happened. If these funds actually existed, they were likely "absorbed" by the admins.

Giveaway threads are subject to hacks, bugs and phishing attempts so It's a good decision to not allowing such threads in this sections.

I often met with the so-called. Mostwy it was the phishing of money, or the weak attempts of hackers. You will not get anything for free. Do not trust too many people you do not know.

Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections. From now on, posting or replying to such threads could result in being banned. Existing threads will be locked.

Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.

Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections, but the giveaway-related post volume is so high in the altcoin sections that I've decided to just ban them entirely here.

I do agree, nowadays every wants make blockchain and own cryptocurrencies because they know is the future. And it's getting out of control, that helps cybercrime.

Agree, but really it's part of world's hype and very similar to any startups in Silicon Valley - if one of 10 projects that you invested in will grow up and bring you money this would be great. So everyone knows this game he playing in

I also agree with this - the supposedly airdrop threads on bitcoingarden for instance are nothing more than referer-scams these days, with hardly a worthwhile project among them.

I disagree. It's marketing. I mean they also attract new readers. Why not to control it better?? I mean maybe ask them first to give you certain information before announcing.

I just discovered this rule (no incentive to post on bitcointalk).
Past few days, I have seen so many airdrops registration requiring to post/answer on this forum. Maybe I should report them Smiley
Or better, I will blackmail them to give me more tokens during airdrop, for not reporting their thread !

Posting with good quality on a specific thread to get a bonus? That's not allowed on the forum and you should read what theymos said about it on the first page;
You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.
No one is allowed to do it then here on forum and if you'll caught doing it, that can result you to this one.

From now on, posting or replying to such threads could result in being banned. Existing threads will be locked.
