Alright Guys,

I've logged in when I said I wouldn't because this is getting out of hand. OUT. OF. HAND. I am getting married on Sunday....No offense, but I don't really have a ton of time to be logging in to break up cat fights, I have other priorities at the moment.

To clarify a few quick things, so maybe you guys might actually trust what my team is saying:

- There were two hard forks since the beginning of the coin, the first reduced the diff retarget from 2016 blocks to 36 and manually set the diff to 16, this occurred at block 20290. The second implemented the 1 Block retarget, using 36 SMA, 12% Minmax. This was implemented at 21436.

-The gravity well. We get it.  Some of you guys really have a hard-on to see this algorithm deployed ASAP. Before I left, I instructed Etbluv1 to use his new simulator to model the gravity well. This is not a simple task because the code must be ported from C to C#. He said he will do this at his earliest possible convenience. This tool is going to be how we establish consensus, because from what I have seen of it so far, it is EXTREMELY accurate, and very realistic to a real world environment. This is going to take time. After this past debacle, I REFUSE to deploy another fork that MAY OR MAY NOT solve the problem. There will be no more fucking maybes. It's either going to fix the problem and we're going to be able to prove that, or it's not going live. Period. No more half-assed garbage. Be patient, my guys are spending a ridiculous amount of time on this as it is.

I can appreciate that many of you want to see this coin profitable ASAP, believe me, we are all at the top of this list on this team, we are doing our best, and I wish that some of you would be a little more realistic with the fact that this is not what ANY of us do for a living. We do this in our spare time and expecting us to be working on this 24/7 is going to end up with us burnt out, and a lot of people excessively angry. Calm down, I promise you we will develop something that will work.

Hopefully that sorts some things out.

KM

Thanks Envy - another option noted and in queue.  One thing we're finding with any of the single-SMA options is that they WILL converge and stabilize if left alone, but they continue to oscillate in the real world.  The current code still overshoots on the high side, and we need to make sure that we stay away from our very low diffs.

This is an example of etblvu1's work:

That's a pretty cool tool there. As for the convergence, I've found there is a critical point around 5% limit, above which none of my 36-block  simple moving average solutions converge... I can't get SAM36LMT12 to converge even if I manipulate hashrate inputs to help it along.

I'm not sure what the difference is in the simulations, though I see that etblvu has a constant hashrate while I dynamically adjust hashrate based on difficulty... makes the system a bit more unstable.

The real problem with the regular simple moving average is those sharp peaks. The function responds exactly the same to being 2000% off in difficulty as it does to being 20% off.

weather coinium has a wrong frontend or they are wrong.
They dont find a block with low diff - seems to be they are wrong.
As time goes on i no longer love this CAT
What´s goning wrong here

I stop mining now - maybe forever

Edit: the last two days i were mining there withoun probs. I can not check each time i switch my miner
if pool is doing his work. I can´t understand this. And still a lot of miner there :-(((

I think block explorer is still on fork.

Edit: Or maybe I'm wrong. But my updated client has less blocks than the explorer.

If block explorer in fork, then devs anytime can start solo mining with minimal dif, and after say that all pools and block explorer was on fork... Block explorer must be real mining indicators. And block explorer shows correct all mining block after update until some time, while some pool don't start fork... if devs will say what block explorer on fork then CAT can be buried...

We are aware that the chain explorer may be on the wrong fork, I've had one of the guys message dogeles to see if he can verify his blockchain for the daemon.

Edit: I am not super crazy about you accusation that the devs would do such a thing, we wouldn't. We're mining the same chain you guys are, because any other chain is useless.

As we talked about yesterday, and as I reported in yesterday's dev notes, the pools identified and fixed a network connection deficiency.  They are synchronized.  The stand-alone catcoin.biz/charts and chain viewer are NOT.

Coinium, geekhash, teamcatcoin, ultimatecoinpool are the trusted nodes to check if anyone thinks they are out of sync with the network.

Make sure you have at least these nodes in your catcoin.conf:

Code:
addnode=cat.geekhash.org
addnode=ultimatecoinpool.org
addnode=eu.coinium.org
addnode=us.coinium.org
addnode=teamcatcoin.com

edit..6 Feb...fixed ultimatecoinpool address.  I copied these from my own catcoin.conf - had to fix mine as well.  Thanks Blaksmith!

May be ultimatecoinpool.com? ultimatecoinpool.com with Pool HR 0 KH/s and geekhash.org with Pool HR 0.013 MH/s two trusted nodes to check?... lol...

Since I'm the Owner of Geekhash, and I'm also on the dev team, and one of the three people in #catcoin-dev channel that have been in on this sync issue, then YES, Geekhash is a trusted node.  Just because everyone is afraid to try a new pool, and because a node doesn't have any hash, it doesn't mean that they are not trusted.

Do supernodes have people hashing on them? NO.  So, if your reasoning about no to little hash rate = not to be trusted, then that means that any supernode (not just for catcoin) shouldn't be trusted?

Here is the corrected list (not in any order of preference):
Code:
addnode=cat.geekhash.org:9933
addnode=eu.coinium.org:9933
addnode=us.coinium.org:9933
addnode=teamcatcoin.com:9933
addnode=ultimatecoinpool.com:9933

EDIT: And for the record, I'm using my hashing on testing new code, so we can have a stable coin, instead of trying to be greedy and not give 2 shits about fixing the coin.

... This is a current snap-shot of development work being done right now and list of folks performing that work.  If I missed anyone, please add to the list, or let me know and I'll update this.

Blaksmith (professional programmer/control systems expert/pool operator) is working on variations of his commercial control systems code and feeding it live data.  He's also working with folks from two other pools to better stabilize the pool network during our fast block periods....

Let me connect a few dots here to make it easier for the folks that don't want to wade thru the past day's traffic.
In the capture from IRC yesterday, you can see part of a multi-hour work session that took place between raistlinthewiz (from Coinium), vekexasia (from ultimatecoinpool), and Blaksmith (from geekhash).  They were tracking down and solving a problem that kept pools  - including teamcatcoin - from synchronizing during our very fast periods.  This is the work that resulted in better linking the major pools to prevent forks.

If you have any concerns about Blaksmith, check for his name in the original post in this thread.  He runs a successful pool in the SHA-256 world and has just released his first scrypt addition - for CAT.  He's also running one of the independent testnets, has written a brand new control system code and is testing it with his own hash power.

In yesterday's message from Maverick, he confirmed the existence of etblvu1's simulator project and proposed using it to confirm the suitability of different code options.  Since that time, et has released his code and it's available as a Windows binary on his site.  I downloaded it this morning and have been using it.  I also spent some quality time talking with et about what's happening behind the scenes.  The code starts with an active network with a difficulty of 60.  He's simulated active mining and a properly random block solving rate.  He's basically built a testnet in a box that we can mess with.  Want to see what happens when we start at 60 diff and all the miners move to Mars?  Press the decrease button.  Want to simulate moving from a network in equilibrium to a 1000 times increase in network hashrate?  Press 10x three times.  Etblvu1 is coding other options as well - as we get inputs from you and/or come up with other options, we're passing those requests to him for coding.

His package announcement is here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=441402.msg4969498#msg4969498

His download is here:
www.catcoin-algo.org

I've just sent him 100 CAT to support the tool.

CAT goes down, multipool switches to CAT. CAT goes up, multipool leaves and cat dies because of the insanely high difficulty which takes forever to break.

I guess you weren't around two weeks ago when we really DID stick at 120 diffs for days with very low supporting hash.  Huh

We're moving - we're no longer stuck.  That's step one.  Long-term stability in any environment is step two.  We did step one.  Now we're working on 2.

As for the switching pools - neither hashcows nor multipool hop to CAT.  Don't know yet about Middlecoin.  Can't speak to any others as I don't know who they are.

Yes, the mining is too fast during the low-diff times - but we've got mining, we've got transactions that clear, we can easily send and receive money, we've got block averages slightly below our 10 minute target, and we've got more average hash rate than we've had since CAT launched.  We have a usable, tradeable, CAT today, and we'll soon have a long-term stable CAT as well.
