CAT hibernating... without strong activity from committed investors/promoters to the world outside of the crypto community... looks to me that a full-time professional marketing team would be required nowdays to make success out of an altcoin, given the numerous competition among all possible altcoins... still, CAT might have a chance to ride on the DOGs tail at some point Wink

Why not try and have a discussion with doges devs, they are them selfs in discussion with litecoin community for merged mining wouldn't this would be beneficial to catcoin, I think this should be a good in it self

DEV FLASH

We've asked all the miners and pools to do a temporary emergency stop mining/stop trading.

It looks like we were attacked a bit ago, possibly with a time-warp attempt.  Initial debug info suggests the attack was not successful.  Unfortunately it tripped a code bug that triggered a divide by zero condition and our diff is stuck at or near zero.

We are working on a code fix now and will certainly fix the divide by zero problem, but also hope to adjust the PID so we can get things moving better and stay out of the low-diff periods.

We will set a new check-point and will very likely roll the block count back to nullify the attack and insta-mine blocks that happened after the attack.

More/better news when we've got it.

Cryptsy has halted all deposits and withdrawals.  We have an open ticket with CoinexPW as well.

We strongly recommend you keep your CATS where they are as we have a number of forks in the wild now.  Please do not lose your CATs!

I strongly do not recommend buying or selling CAT until this is cleared - we will very likely be rolling the block chain back.  Buying or selling may result in orphans and lost coins.

Just a quick update.  The programmers have the divide by zero problem fixed.  It looks like we were hit with a time-warp attack and it looks like all the bad blocks were rejected.  This would have been a non-event if we didn't have the divide by zero glitch.

Since we have to fork, the guys are working on some adjustments to the PID as well.

More facts when we've got them.

Cryptsy and CoinEX have both been notified to recompile and return to service.

I'm compiling the last seed node now and will get the windows wallet published in about 90 minutes.

As reported earlier, the current mandatory wallet upgrade is live.  Below you'll find links to the Windows wallet binary packages.

As expected, the block explorer at catcoin.biz is NOT updated.  Do not rely on this tool.  The blockchain explorer at catstat.info is being updated now.

The current block is displayed in the header of the chart at http://www.catstat.info/.

Exchanges:  Cryptsy, CoinEX.pw and CoinedUp were notified of the emergency code update.  Cryptsy responded immediately.  They stopped deposits and withdrawals - they'll re-open transactions as soon as they update.  We have not yet heard from either CoinEX or CoinedUP.  We recommend you do not use those sites until they've updated.

Wallet links in the original post will be updated as soon as possible.

The MAC wallet is not yet updated.

MS Windows Wallet packages are available in two flavors:

Self-extracting 7zip archive:
http://www.catcoinwallets.com/win/catcoin090101.exe
SHA256: 7F26E6E2D08DA50DCAFBB384C2F2500FA0F3B8440EF202CDEFBD1255DB3A92E4

Regular zip archive:
http://www.catcoinwallets.com/win/catcoin090101.zip
SHA256: 7ABF4E133215C5857E312180420A274CFE914AF67DC57A191D2D3BE8BBADAB5D

If you want to build a Windows catcoind.exe or wallet from source, the source is here:
https://github.com/CatcoinOfficial/CatcoinRelease

And build instructions are here:
http://www.catcoinwallets.com/win/catcoin_wallet_build_windows.pdf

Please note - there is a readme.txt file in the each Windows wallet package.  Because this update rolls the blockchain back to before the hack attempt, you will have to reindex your block chain, or you will have to delete your old files (make sure you keep your wallet.dat and catcoin.conf!).

To reindex:  click the start globe, type cmd.exe in the search window, and press return.  Change directory to the location of your windows-qt.exe program.  If on the desktop, type cd desktop then enter.  To reindex, type windows-qt.exe --reindex and let it run.  Once the reindex is complete and the wallet updates, close the wallet.  When you restart the wallet, it will alert you:  "Corrupted block database detected.  Do you want to rebuild the block database now?" Say yes and let it reindex again.  Once it's finished, your upgrade is complete.
