At least $500 with a goal of $1000. $300 for marketing and the rest to development.
I repeat: why don't you accept donations in BTC? I would donate if you do so as I don't want you to sell RIC charshing its rate.

This doesn't make sense - if you buy RIC with BTC, you'll increase its price.  It will later drop.

I think what you're really saying is that a BTC donation is more efficient given that you currently hold BTC and don't hold RIC.

But the answer is simple:  They've set up a multi-signature address to decentralize the ownership of the funds and require consensus to spend.  They've done that only for RIC, not BTC.

They're holding far less RIC than most of the whales.  I wouldn't worry about them crashing it at this point.  There are a lot of other people who could cause the price to move much more than the Riecoin foundation, and at least if they spend the RIC, it's going towards something aimed at boosting the value of the currency. I will discuss this with other members but this is a great idea and hopefully I can persuade the members to agree with me to accept BTC. The foundation didn't accept BTC before because we didn't really want to manage more than a wallet to makes things more complex. I am sorry if I missed your previous suggestion Greed and had to make you repeat it again. We do only hold less than 1000 RIC currently so don't worry about us crashing the price. We don't even make it to the top 100 richest RIC holders.

Since you're upping the wallet anyway, can we add the -datadir function to the next version? Pretty please?  Grin

Hmmm, I wonder what Professor Andersen is up to - I cannot improve my RIC CPU miner any further. Perhaps I can steal some of your ideas.

Stuff you may have already done - I moved from a trivially parallel model of independent workers to one using a shared sieve and many workers doing primality testing.  Sieve generation is parallelized across about 1/4 of the cores, overlapped with testing of previously-found candidates.

Saves a lot of memory, good for performance, lets you use a larger sieve without hurting performance, and is really annoying to get working optimally on high-core-count NUMA AMD machines, which is why I haven't released it yet.  Oh, and the occasional deadlock. :p

This was the next (and one of the last, though not quite yet) bits of low-hanging fruit before having to start really thinking.

I have not yet tried that approach on the CPU, but it was the approach I took on the GPU with one exception - there is no overlapping of sieving and modular exponentiation computations.

If I can find a few minutes of downtime before the end of this month, I will overlap both the sieving and the modular exponentiation phases on the GPU and report back the results. Additionally, I am still yet to take advantage of Dynamic Parallelism and Hyper-Q features (available on both the GTX 780 Ti and GTX 750 Ti devices) which should help with the implementation.

We're looking into the BTC acceptance but I think it is a sound idea. Obviously as a member of the foundation I encourage donations of ANY coin to help promote the growth of RIC. I think that it is just the fact that we never thought people would want to do it this way. Hopefully we can get a pub BTC key soon and post that as an option. Smiley Thanks for wanting to donate as well!

Updates on the foundation: Still setting up and waiting for donations. A few members are taking an absence because of personal issues so the side projects may be delayed until they returned. Actions are being taken to release news of Riecoin to multiple press reviews.

No, I hold 5,000 RIC (RUiN6gZ6jPU4B9SYGydhbVAK8a2bGvDMnK). I believe in this coin and want to support it.

I suggest to accept bitcoin because it's much easier to convert BTC into USD and spend for marketing, etc.

A thought - with a number of Primecoin GPU miners out now, how long do we think it will take for a RIC miner to be released? As soon as that happens diff is pretty much guaranteed to past 1857 if the new miners are at all optimized... which will break the record. Breaking that kind of record should be sufficient to get some serious mainstream media attention by itself (as long as no celebrities do anything really stupid that day), which should help in the recruitment of other interested parties ("We're going this for SCIENCE! And profit.").

When targeting universities, see who the top researchers in the prime number field are? Of course, now that I think of it, they have probably already heard of RIC.

Attention for breaking the record will be good but I don't look forward to explaining it to normal people who ask.

"So they are now finding the largest primes?"
"Uh, no, now they are finding the largest prime 6-chains which means..."
"zzzzz...."

That's why I always make sure to mention "Riemann hypothesis... blah blah... one of the hardest problems in mathematics... blah blah... millennium prize of a million dollars if it can be proven or disproven."

Money makes people take notice.

"Which Bitcoin derivative takes on one of the hardest problems in mathematics? See our article for details!"

Pretty much writes itself. And any exposure is good exposure.

I would prefer attention for Riecoin be saved until we have poly pools and a good core development around Riecoin.
